Hehe I wasn't referring to your explanation of fuses, but the one up above that said something about protecting the radar dectector from power spikes! Your explanation was definately on the right track, I just thought I would add a little to it. And, your test light theory does make sense, if they don't know how to use a meter and want to work on the electronics of the Z then they will have to assume the risks. These arn't 82 Monte Carlos Serious damage can occur.

I am meeting with SixFive and Ed_C tonight (g35driver.com) to install a beta unit in Ed's car. We are planning on releasing them in about two - three weeks!

Both units can be permanently damaged by using test lights. Also, be careful using the power wires that go up to the mirror. Almost every switched source is controlled by the BCM. Your best bet is to use the ignition wire in the ignition harness coming off of the key switch. Going to the fuse box is not a bad idea either, just not very professional imo. Also, fuses arn't there to protect your radar detector from spikes, they are there to protect your car from the radar detector! 99% of the time when a radar detector, or other similar device, goes bad they short out. When this happens, it doesn't matter if you have a 1amp fuse or a 20amp fuse the short will pull >600amps and blow the fuse almost instantatiously.

i hardwire my **** last night.. it was easy.. i went to the fusebox. look on the back of the cover and it will show you what fuses are what.. i connected my red wire to the IGNITION.. electric compenents or whatever... so that way the wire is only hot when u turn on the ignition. then for the ground.. i connected it to a bolt that look like it was holding some kind of silver box.. unscrewed one of the bolts and put in the wire and screwed it back in.. works just like a charm..

Question

i am probably about to sound like an idiot, but how would u wire something to a fuse in the fuse box. would u take the fuse out then pull the female connector up and wire it to the wires or would u just take the fuse out and lay the positive wire in the put the fuse back in? sorry but whenever i look in a fuse box i just see fuses and nowhere to tap a wire???

what i did was pull that fuse out.. wrap the wire around one of the ends of the fuse then just plug it back in

not trying to say that you won't pick up any signals in that mounting location, but i highly doubt that you will pick up to many rear signals. the best place for a radar detector is in the middle of the window not close to the dash or up behind a mirror or so forth and so on. it works on line of site. sure it looks better concealed, but i don't know about you guys but the reason i have a radar detector is to detect stuff.

My question to you is, are those wires there on an 04 base, as in no homelink mirror?

If you're still looking to hardwire your detector I know of a very easy way, 10 min max.
