I'd just stick with the stocker to be honest. I've seen too many issues with the Optimas.

just go to www.optimabatteries.com and try out their vehcile fitment guide, if there is none that fits directly, measure out your battery, compareit with their listings, and see if one matches the right pos neg positions and ourgh size.

i have heard some bad things about optima, but all i can say is this, i have used and installed over 50 with very very few problems...

the few instances i have seen issues, the car ether had a slow eletrical leak, or hte guy decided to play his system all day with the car off, all on a RED TOP, and it died after being emptied a few times, but red tops are NOT deep cycle ones to begin with.

i myself have had 3 yellow tops and one red top in my cars, never with an issue...

Look into Kinetik batteries.

Car audio, CarPC etc. D35 Yellow. Its one inch shorter but comes with an adapter to make it the same hight, its the same width and length as stock and weighs 37lbs.

This site list the specs.

Note: I needed to change the ground terminal on my car because the Optima negative post diameter was too small. I used a 10" premade cable, sanded down a dime size spot at one of the original bolt holes and use a slightly longer bolt. Others have suggested wrapping coper wire around the post to thicken it up a bit.

Thats probably not definitive but those are your choices

I had to replace two yellow tops in my Supra alone. Since then, I just use a nice Interstate if I need to replace stockers.

i run a red top with a jl 500/1 and 300/2. It has had no problems for the past couple years. As for the reverse terminal, certain models have reverse terminals and work fine in the Z. I just make sure not to keep my car running with the system playing for long.

I am pretty sure the red top model for the Z is 35R.

I'm pretty interested in the Yellow Top. My stocker went dry on my last night. It's over 4 years old, ready to retire. I'm pushing a bit over 1000watts. I also like to crank the system up at outdoor shows, but usually have to leave the car running. The stock alternator and battery set-up weren't too bad. Only thing is, when the bass would demand heavy current, my guage would always drop from 14vdc to 12vdc. This drop takes place while the vehicle is running. I've searched about 60 threads in the past hour and have been seeing so many conflicting opinions and battery suggestions. The Yellow Top seems to be the choice based on my needs and the fact that I need a battery that can recover after full discharge. not that I'll make it a habit, but if it does happen I'll be ok.

Weight is not a concern with me either. Fittment is. The D35 Yellow Top seems to be model everyone has agreed upon as the correct battery for the Z. Is this correct? Also, the general concensus says the negative cable needs to be extended, the Yellow Top's binding posts are a bit too thin, and there needs to piece of wood stuck under the battery so it can fit properly. All this is true, correct?

Anyone care to confirm all this, and possible list any other details I might be missing?

Thanks guys,
Val

Most people don't want the optima's if they are trying to lessen the weight BUT you're not worried about the weight. The red is the one you want. You can use the yellow but those are deep cell used more for marine applications or running in the back of a car were it runs more than it gets a charge.(amps, hydraulics, ect.) If you run it a lot without the car on you will want the yellow top...
