If that's the case - then I won't be buying a "reduced price" Bose.

I'm going to hang on and see if Patty comes through...

Who knows they might come up with a really nice fix, that would make me totally satisfied with my otherwise totally satisfying Z

Default I agree!

I agree with everyone of you! At first I was impressed Bose admitted their product in the 350 Z is worth s**t. And that certainly is a huge admission from this company. But it is certainly looking like this email they sent us is merely a container of Vaseline, making the insertion up the a** a little less painful. I am going to make myself a huge pest to this company and I suggest everyone else do the same. Call them continuosly, email them continuosly!

I just got some literature from Nissan on the 350Z and they described the BOSE stero as..."New for 2004 is a re-tuned, 240 watt"....Do you think "re-tuned" means they fixed the problem? How are the steros in recent 04 models?

I just got my reply from Bose - not very good news to ME:

Hello Geoff,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Bose Music System in your 2003 Nissan 350Z. In answer to your question, Bose did acknowledge a system performance issue in the 2003 model year that was address with two Technical Service Bulletins through your Nissan dealer.

It sounds like the dealer may have already performed the Customer Satisfaction Initiative on your system but I will forward your message to our OEM Service Engineer for any comments or suggestions.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.

I own a 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring edition and have some serious complaints about the quality of the Bose stero that is install in this vechicle by the factory. It lacks in quality and clarity and doesn't hold up to the performance of other quality Bose products. I have taken the vehicle back to the dealership to have the amplifier replaced which helped, but did not cure the situation. Is bose working on a remedy for this situation?

I sent a similar email to both Bose and Nissan this morning. I suggest we all keep reminding them of our dissatisfaction. You never know...we might get something done if they get tired of hearing from us.

Yup, i think they are just blowing smoke up our ***. I have a feeling they are never going to do anything to improve the bose system. The TSB which said to change the amp with the new one is probably going to be the last improvement we see from Blose Corporation. They have been sending these kind of emails to everybody that complained about the Blose system, from the birth of 350Z.It's a shame because the Bose System in my Mercedes S420 sounds awesome. Maybe it is not Blose that we should complain to but Nissan Corp ???

350 pilot, did you raise the deck or just re-enforce it to hold the sub? was there anything underneath the space you used?

Thx for the info btw it looks good and practical to!

I recently listened to an 04 roadster and have to say that the clarity was better, but still not close to what I'm used to in my MBs.

I've had the amp changed twice, and the head unit swapped once.

Did not raise the deck. Basically all there is in that space is filler. Its much like the other side of the trunk where the jack is. The only difference is that its not molded to hold anything (i.e. the jack, tire tool, or the tow hook). After taking that out, my guy simply built the box to fit. The only thing changed was the deck lid which was cut around the box and the mat which was cut for the speaker.

Here's my recent email to Nissan about the Bose "fix" I just went through...sounds like I've come to the end of the road on this one. I'm not a happy camper.

Dear Ed Connell:

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.

Unfortunately, Consumer Affairs does not have access to technical information. Our Consumer Affairs department relies on our Nissan dealerships to provide technical support and information for our products. If the dealership can't find any other issues with system than the dealership can't perform any more repairs or modifications.

File 4541267 has been created to document your concern, please feel free to call 1-800-647-7261, Nissan Consumer Affairs with any additional questions or comments regarding this matter. When you call, please refer to the listed file number.

I had my Bose system in my 2003 350Z "fixed" recently. The
sound quality is better but still falls far short of my expectations. I am
still very dissapointed with the results.

Golfman –

I can not believe that Nissan would respond to you in Japanese. Fortunately for you, I can translate the letter you received. Quite frankly, I’m very good at capturing the nuances so often lost in translation. Here goes…

Dear Ed Connell:

F*ck off!

LOL! Excellent translation!

I've got the 2004 Roadster and the sound isn't that bad actually. What I can't understand is the TAPE deck! WTF is a tape deck doing in my post-2000 year car? If they had put an 8-track it would have been just as valuable to me.

I find that Bose, in general, has REALLY gone downhill over the past several years. I'm talking home audio here. They *USED* to manufacture some high quality components and the money they were asking was actually warranted.

Now? Cheapie crap made in China. Obviously the leadership at Bose has changed drastically and they no long care about "high end" but rather "mass market".

I'm willing to bet they're making a lot more money now, though...

I have a 2004 Touring coupe with the Bose System..All i can say about it is I HATE ITS GUTS. It is just terrible compared to my 2001 MB C320 which had a 10 speaker bose system that was just amazing. The worst thing is when there is bass it just rattles the cheap plastic housing the sub sits in and makes it sound even worse. I am going to rip out the entire system all it is is a waste of space!

Maybe everyone that rips the system out should smash it to pieces and send it back to bose in a garbage bag ..you know with a note that says "here this is your trash! YOU take it to the garbage dumpster!"
