Default OEM Navigation in non-Navi Touring?

Hey guys, I was just curious if it was possible to install the OEM Navigation into a Z that didn't come with it? Sorry if it's a repost.

Yup repost, but that's cool. It's been talked about and it is technically possible but it would cost you way more than it is worth. I don't think anyone has officially done it though, anyway just go after market or car pc.

This is the long answer...

This is a question asked many times, and the answer is always the same: "Dont' do it."

Why you ask...

1) The OEM navigation system is weak and not as good as the aftermarket products (Alpine, Eclipse, Garmin, Kenwwod, etc.) that are available.

2) Installing the OEM navigation system in a car that does not have this as original equipment requires pulling the entire dash (and there are airbags to deal with when doing this), doing a significant amount of re-wiring, installing a gyro and antenna in deeply guarded positions... and when the day is done... it may not work. This would take many hours and cost a lot of money.

3) You cannot buy an OEM navigation system from the dealer. The only way to get an OEM navigation is buying one out of a wrecked car. Of course, that in itself is risky (the OEM navigation system may be damaged).

The reason people are interested in the OEM navigation system is that it is a perfect and stealth fit; and it goes into the upper/forward cubby space, which is optimal for viewing. The double-din space is a poor position for a navigation screen since it is too low requiring a significant viewing-diversion while navigating. If you have a 2003 Z, you can drop a monitor into the upper/forward cubby and run this with a remote navigation "blackbox" without doing any modifications. If you have a 2004 or 2005 Z, you can do the same by only swapping your upper/forward cubby with a 2003 cubby. 2006 and 2007 upper/forward cubbys require some custom fabrication to mount a navigation screen (where it should be for optimum viewing while driving).

I hope this information is useful (and not confusing). You can also do some searching here, but the search functions are pretty weak.

Why would you want to. So many aftermarket that are better.
