Default Help!! Ipod not recognized !!!

Well I haven't downloaded a new song to my Ipod for a while and I recently tried. I have come to find out that it isn't being recognized. It doesn't show in device manager. I am running XP, & I am pretty sure that I have the SP2 add-on. It does charge however, & my USB memory key works fine in the same port so what gives?? Anyone else experience this ??? I'm going on vacation soon & I'd rather not drive 6+ hours without a fresh Ipod.

Please , don't get too upset, but

This is why you should get a Mac !

anyway, just for the fun of it, power off and try a different usb port.

I've heard of older Ipods not working well with newer versions of Itunes. You would be better off expanding your search to google for help.

Is it charged? I bought a used iPod from someone and the battery was completely discharged. iTunes wouldn't recognize the device until I charged it with an AC adapter.

http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/

You probably already tried looking here, but I have found a lot of helpful answers. It does take a bit of time though.
