As the title states I am looking for a double din head-unit that offers a very nice looking/ flashy touch screen interface. Any Suggestions??

I currently have a Panasonic CQ-VD6503U - I got it for a steal of a price and it works very, very well, but the interface is quite dull and unattractive in the Z; plus it's not a flush mount unit - See pic:


My initial thoughts of being satisfied with a simple in-dash dvd and IPOD solution have gone to the way side.

The flashy, greedy, bastard is starting to show his face...

Oh yeah, I'm thinking about grabbing a set of 19" Volks soon as well....

Looking to stay under $1,500, I might even consider used if necessary (HINT HINT SELLERS)

30 Gig IPOD (soon to replaced by 80gb)
Morel Dotech MKII 6.5" Components
Seas Lotus 10" 2007 SW 250/1 Sub in Understrut Box
All powered by Alpine PDX 4.150 Amplifier - Does a wonderful clean job; I was surprised too.

Any Suggestions??

 

Did you do that install? I dont wanna be mean and say anything bad if you did
(You have to redrill new holes in the stock brackets to make any double Din fit flush)
Back on topic, the Pioneers are nice (Love my Avic Z1) look into the Avic D3 for your price range, Alpines are also very popular.

Yes everything has been installed by me, this way I have know one to blame but Q. I feel what you're saying, being that this was my first total install, I figured I had time to go back and tweak things a bit, including flushing whatever new headunit I get.

Thanks for the constructive input... I sometimes don't even bother starting threads because they easily become pissing contests and get off topic rather quickly (like I'm doing here...lol )

 

Alpine iva-w205 would be nice. I personally like the Eclipse double DIN's. Pioneer and Kenwood are known for lots of bells and whistles.

Eclipse AVN5510 is a nice unit that you can find for a little over a grand:

Ooooooh and it has a nav unit pre-installed. Panasonic was suppose to offer an outboard navigation unit that interfaces with my current unit, but no word yet (not in the USA at least... the UK has one, but it's not compatible here)

Being that I paid well under $500 for the unit, including the ipod cable, it's not a huge loss and will hopefully sell, (or go in my truck)

Yeah, I had the Eclipse AVN5495 in my Xterra and LOVED it. I traded the truck in on the Z and was too darn lazy to take it out before trade in. I don't think sometimes.

 

I had the Eclipse 6610 installed last month and I love it...

It is about 1699 though...

I was at Circuit City today and I do believe they had the 5510 model for about 300 bucks less...

 

Can you hook up a computer to that? Streetdeck interface looks really good. http://www.mp3car.com/ - I tried mediaengine, and it's really slick.

Not bad, not bad at all... what's a couple of hundred bucks more? I'll swing by Circuit City this weekend and check them out...

I looked at that so many times, but something tells me if I'm going to make this upgrade, I might as well go "all the way" and spend a bit more and be "satisfied" - Of course we all know that's virtually impossible with technology; we don't buy things, we rent them until the next best thing comes along the following week...

That's a good question, I wouldn't mind that either.

Crutchfield has the 6610 packaged with the Bluetooth module for about $1,800; I'm actually leaning more towards the Pioneer Avic-Z2, but something about Eclipse not being so mainstream makes me want that more.

 

Dont be fooled by the popularity/availability of the Eclipse (not too many shops around here carry them either). The FT installer I work with at the shop really recommends Eclipse products for their sound quality and performance. The Z2 is definately a baller unit, but damn expensive.

Dont forget to add the prices for the additional toys like bluetooth adapters, Sat tuners, Ipod cables, and rear camera's when figuring your final price

Just to let you know a lil more info on the 6610.

They wire the microphone you talk into for the BlueTooth right near the sunglass holder.

And then there will a small button set up near the shifter to start and end calls...
