No such thing. What is the best for you is not the best for someone else. It is all subjective. Even when you do find the "so called best" it might not be the best for you because of the price.

So many factor's to determine what is the "best". I guess the way to determine which is "best".... would be "which one provides all the options you are looking for in your price range. That would be the "best" for you.

If you told people what you are looking for functionally it would help. For example. Maybe you want ipod capabilities, navigation, radio, and dvd all in one unit. Or maybe you just want ipod, xm, and dvd. There are huge price differences between units depending on what the unit has. Both could be equal in quality.

I personally prefer the Clarion. HAs the best picture I've seen for a DD unit although the Alpine is close (yet more expensive) Clarion's user interfaces are VERY easy to use, espcially the Ipod which is important for most consumers. Alpine's are typically not as user friendly if you want to tune your own stereo for customization. They can put out AMAZING sound quality, but to get there, it needs to be tuned for quite some time by an Alpine authorized dealer. The Eclipse is nice as well and also easy to use, The screens just aren't quite as nice for video. Pioneer is about Avg. all the way around, Im just not a pioneer fan.

In the end, its ALL personal preference and you really need to go to local shops that have them on display so they can be shown in person to you. From there it will be MUCH easier for you to make your decision. Usability and funtionality is key for me when Im shopping for stuff like that.

I had no problem tuning my Alpine W-200. I guess it depends on what you are custom to using. I have always been an Alpine fan.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but I am using the Pioneer AVIC-D3, and it's the best priced I believe. Bought it for around $700 online (search Google).

Does everything I want, mp3, dvd, navigation, ipod, etc.

i concur with the others in terms of buying a unit that does what you need it to and one that you like (styling, interface, etc).

me personally, i love my JVC, picked it up for about 900 bucks. it has everything minus nav, which i didnt need since i can read a map (a skill that apparently escapes most folks these days).

I really like my Pioneer D3. When I went back to the dealer after the install, the salesmen off the Nissan floor came out to compliment. Good price, compatible with both Sat companies, IPOD, DVD video (rewired for passenger's viewing while in motion), Nav,multiple AV imputs (one in the front), custom LED color, piano finish and many more...plus it looks like a natural fit It gets my vote.

You didn't mention Kenwood (a possible "best' pick).

Your question is ambiguous. You don't define what is important to you. Do you want navigation, DVD function, Satellite radio, HD radio, etc.? Is price important?

You should re-phrase the question (providing more detail about what you want) to "refresh" your thread.

The only comment I can say is that is the unit I am using in my own car.
Also if you look at this months Car Audio Magazine, the Kenwood DNX7100 was rated the best grade with an A-, when they did a comparison using industry profesionals.

^^ The Kenwood DNX7100 would be my pick for a double-din device since it does it all, and as good or better than comparable devices in almost every category. The Kenwood DNX7100 is a great and feature-rich CES with a razor-sharp LCD display that also offers a superior navigation component: NAVTEQ map database, Garmin application software, and ROM-based (i.e., instant and non-mechanical) brain that does not depend upon the slower DVD functions competitors use for operation and updates.

I'm not sure what the OP is looking for, but he cannot go wrong with this unit since its SRP is favorable and its feature list is long.
