Default V1 Change Tray Install? (tint?)

ive seen the V1 custom installs, and they look great. Im planning to mount mine (as soon as I get it!) to the rear headliner just in front of the rear hatch glass.

Has anyone mounted the custom display in the change tray? I figure it would be an easy way to conceal. In case you do get pulled over, just flip the tray shut and its "invisible". I havent investigated the dimensions of the remote display versus the change tray. Just wondering if anyone had kicked this idea around already..

Also, will window tint affect the reliability of the V1's detection?

Thanks-
indulf

Not sure what happened to those pics. I think they morphed in cyberspace or something. Scottie needs to check the transporter I think.

The first pic shows exactly 1 inch.

The second an inch and an eighth.

The third 2 and 7/16.

The remote thing would have to be hard to see from the spare change holder.

You can pop the change tray out it drop down some more.

I mounted my remote display under the steering column so no one but the driver can see it.

i like that mount too- under the steering column.

if i cant make the change tray work to my liking then ill most likely do that. i was planning on popping out the tray and mounting the display under the flip up door.

maybe itll work!

I will take photos for you. I was able to use the cig adapter and then run the wires under carpet etc pulled by hand. Total thing took some creative ghetto rigging and 25 minutes of my time having never installed a V1 before. No scredrivers or other disassembly required. Just some gentle tugging...

i thought about the change tray also.. the remote unit will fit but i don't think that's an ideal place since u will have to take your eyes off the road and look down... by the time u look up... "they" might be waiting already!!
I found the Nav compartment is a good location, taped it to the ceiling of the "hole" tilt it slightly like factory, It now sits just below the 3 instrument panel and make viewing a lot easier!

i have not permanently installed it.. but am thinking doing it this wkd! have to take off thecenterconsole and drill hole probably connect it to the fuse panel in the front!

I am still concern with mounting the unit near the rear glass window. although it's kinda hidden... if u look at it in the right position, it will still show obviously to me.... currently i just hook it into the ceiling and remove it when i park...

any thoughts?

I have 20% on the back so you can't see the radar unit at all. Otherwise it is still really hard to see unless someone tells you where it is. Cops don't look hard for radar in that location. I will post photos in a bit.

does the 20% interfere with the radar? maybe a little bit?

i am thinking of putting on 20% tint just to keep the strangers away... i had my car broken into cu's of the radar under the carpet... a bit sensitive in this area....

also, how r u hardwiring it? i am thinking wire it into the fuse box in the front... but then the routing from the back to the front is not that obvious? i have side air bag and wasn't sure if it was ok to go thru the roof liner...

The tint should have no impact on the radar sensitivity, it may impact laser detection.

1. As someone else mentioned, it only affects lidar. And if you get tagged by lidar you are already f*cked, so don't worry about it.

2. I didn't make any great effort to conceal every last bit of cord, but I did get 99% of it out of view. I will upload photos. having trouble getting them from the camera.

I like that. But why don't you hard wire it all to the cig lighter BEHIND the socket to make it 100% stealth?
