Default I need some help with my navi!

heres what happened...i took my dash apart to see if i could figure out why my navi door wasn't working and to put a trim around my other screen. when after i took my dash out and tried to test my navi door, my navi screen would still turned on. well heres the problem. after i put everything back together and i turn the key to the on position, my navi wouldn't work. so i took everything apart again and turn the key on and the navi worked but then i put the dash back on and it stopped working...i'm a little confused because its not like i disconnected anything that has to do with the navi. any suggestions?

did you check all your connections. sometimes, when taking the dash apart,,,some of the harness connections can come loose, causing things not to work.

With it working when dash is apart and not when put together,,,,it sounds like some kind of loose connection. Keep us posted....

When you say the Navi stopped working... when in the dash.. do you mean the Navi screen wont open? or the entire unit wont turn on at all?

If the door wont open, you probably need to drill new holes in the OEM bracket to give enough room for the screen to open. I had the ssame issue with my Z1 the first time I installed it. Redrilled the stock brackets and that fixed it.

If the entire unit wont power on, I agree with Lsmith has to be a connection issue

its the entire unit that won't turn on...the navi door stays fulling open..which connections could be if i never unpluged the navi? for some reason i think its because i fooled around with the navi door and it prolly thinks its still closed when it really isnt, why else would it work when the dash is out. well im going to go check the connections again and see whats up. i'll keep you guys posted and lmk any other suggestions.

Try checking the connections from the radio to the harness, if you used crimp connectors, maybe try soldering them to make sure they maintain a good connection.

well this is what i have found out so far. when i kept everything plugged up and only disconnected the harness the is furthest to the right(passenger side) and turned the key on, my navi worked. and everything i plugged it back it wouldn't work. i repeated this step many times with the same results. i tried to keep the harness unplugged and disconnect the battery then plug that harness back up and reconnected the battery but that didn't work. so i know what the problem is i just don't know how to fix it...i hope someone can help me

I'm a little lost now. Can you take a pic of the harness thats furthest to the right? Also a pic of the entire radio/cubby section would help.

there are two harness that connect to the back of the 3 gauges on the back of the dash. one connects directly behind with mph gauge and the other connects inbetween the other two gauges which is the one i'm talking about. i'll take pix asap

The three gauges on the cubby or the three gauges behind the steering wheel? I was working on my Z yesterday and there's only one harness behind the three gauges above the Nav cubby. Maybe it depends on the year Z you have, and whether or not you have stock Navi

the three gauges on the cubby..i have the stock navi. here are some pix
the first pic is showing the two harnesses im talking about that connects behind the three gauges above the navi. and the harness on the right side is whats causing me problems.

the second pic here is showing what the two harnesses aboove connect to. the harness slot closest connects to the harness on the left and the slot furthest connects to the harness on the right

That clarifies things a bit, thanks for the pics. When you connect those harness's, can you pull them out of the slots without using the release tab?

If it's not that I would say your original guess would be the most likely one. Bad Navi door. I'll see if I can find some diagrams.

No.
i've already figured out the problem which i stated in post #7. it has something to do with that harness on the right side as shown in pic 1. this isnt the first time ive unplugged and plugged these harness back up so i dunno why this problem would occur and won't go away. right now, if i leave it unplugged then my navi works but the three gauges don't and if i leave it plugged then visa versa

Man this has been bugging me all day. So let me go over the details
You have a 200_ (must be newer if you have a motorized cubby door)
The nav and the gauges work when the left plug is attached
You plug in the harness to the right and the Nav shuts off but the gauges still work.

Judging by the pics you took (thanks) it looks like there are more wires there than just power for the cubby door. I think your assumption in post #4 is right on the money, there must be some type of over ride tied to the cubby door. Cubby door switch is registering as closed, shutting off the NAV. Unless you can identify the switching mechanism, I would take it to a dealer for repair. Sorry this took more time, but I've never worked with a stock nav or a motorized cubby so I was a little in the dark . I chimed in on this thread because I thought you were using an aftermarket Nav unit

There should be a micro switch at the back that is activated when the door is fully open.
It may be twisted.
Disconnecting the connector makes it always on.
.....This is from the 03 model I opened with the manual door

Any fix to this Z33boi? I just removed my center dash and put it back together. And suddenly, my SES light is on. I thought it might be related to my rough idle. But, this thread makes me wonder.

I noticed what appears to be a grounding strap for the small connector to the cluster guages and it was a little loose. I tried tightening it up. But, I could not get a good angle on it.
