Older thread, but it is relevant since I bought the camera and installed it on my car. The monitor I am using is Farenheit T-7000MHR which is only a single input, but I am also using a Garmin GVN52 so I had to use a Farenheit AVIR3 input switcher to use all the sources into the single monitor.
I think I spent a total of $30 on the camera with shipping and I can't complain about the results, it actually works pretty well at night too. I was originally going to mount it in less conspicuous location than the tag, but where I live and knowing a bunch of Police/Sheriffs and asking them, it is walking a gray line of legality (it's like people who put stickers on the tags) but it isn't obscuring anything so I decided to go that route.

These pictures were just taken today (11/28/07) at 6:20 PM EST.
The first picture is taken from my garage looking out to my driveway so you can see how dark it is outside. I can't see anything.
This picture is immediately after the first picture; I placed one tripod based yellow halogen worklight 6' behind my car, and what you are seeing is that image.
In my opinion, its pretty significant what you can see with the camera as compared to nothing at all, and when I think about how cheap it was to buy, I don't see any real loss in the deal.

I just ordered one very similar to replace my current one. I plan on mounting it in the peach on my license plate to immulate rapper Young Jeezy I followed this write-up on install and it was easy as pie:

thats actually not bad, and a clean install. but what ever happened to just turning your head and looking out the back window.
this is a product for women, not for a 350

1 - The a$$ of the Z is large and there isn't much of a rear window to look through. Backing into a spot can be easier with a camera such as this. I know at work I back into a spot that has a concrete wall, this camera would allow me to better judge how close I am to that wall.
2 - If you are tinted, this camera would come in useful at night when backing out of a driveway or a spot.
3 - The camera may allow you to see things on the ground behind you that you couldn't see otherwise through the window.
4 - This camera may get you a better view of the hot blonde in the white BMW 330i behind you at the traffic light
In no way should a back-up camera REPLACE the legally accepted format of turning around and looking out the rear windows before backing up your vehicle, but as illustrated above, a camera could prove to be a useful tool.

yes I can see how it can be useful in a car with poor rear window visibility.

Well, this is about the best I can do, it was very simple though.
This is the camera mounted into the tag. I used nothing more than a Dremel tool to make the cuts in the tag and in the car, and then I used a wire coat hanger to feed the camera wires through the grommet in the trunk.
To mount the camera I had to drill a hole in the tag, and behind the tag as well.
If you are looking at the rear of the car, and pull away the rubber trim molding, and the rear trunk panel piece. That gives you access to the rubber grommet which is where I ran the power and video wire through the car.
Now how you choose to hook up the rest of the connections is up to you. I am using a video input switch because I have multiple video connections going into one monitor so my setup at the connection is probably different than most, but that's the gist of the install, it's very simple though.
