Great Idea but need some help making it work!
I spend much of my day on the road and am always on my cell phone. I really want a nice place to mount it so I can access it and see it while driving.
I picked up a holder at Wal-Mart for $15 that plugs into the power supply. This would be nice if the power supply was in the front.
I am thinking about hard wiring this device into the supply but mounting it somewhere near the little change holder in the arm rest. This mount swivels so it won't get it my way of shifting.
Here are some pictures of what I am talking about. I just want some advice on if thre is a way fo rme to mount this thing and make it look GOOD. I am very picky and don't want an ugly rig.
Any suggestions???

hmmm Id say fabricate a mount that replicates the change draw, therefor you can pull it out and put the change draw back in if you choose. possibly do it with metal, take a strip of metal... put a long screw through it down into the hole in the bottom, should keep it relativally stable. then have the metal top flush with the recess, so you cant see into it(its ugnly in there)
then lastly, Id say hard wire the device to the power plug thats behind you, or you could purchase another ciggerette plug, and mount it into the metal... that might be even better.
I know, this makes NO sense whatsoever. maybe I can draw a picture...
the metal is just a flat peice of metal cut to the side of the opening so it sits in there nicely, in the metal you drill a hole and mount a ciggerette plug, wire the plug to the existing one, this will give you acc power, if you want full time power, your gonna need to find another powersource.
on remaining thing to do is to secure the metal plate into the reccess so it doesnt fall over. dont have any good ideas for that... not while keeping it easy to remove and replace with change draw when you want.

Thats for the info.. but I just had an idea. Maybe I could just replace the change tray into the regular cig. lighter (I think I can buy this item. . right??). Then all I have to do is wire it for a cig. lighter. Then when I want to use the phone holder. . I just flip the top of the "ash tray" and plug it in!! Then if I want to remove it, I just pull it out and close the lid.
This would be perfect. . now I must see if I can do this. Has anyone modified this into an ash tray or a cig. lighter?
Thanks!

I swear to god I live in a parallel universe w/ this car. haha. I was just staying up last night trying to think of a way to mount a cell phone in the nav unit box. The cigarette lighter wire is what I'm using to run my lights that I will be putting the back w/ my plexiglass sub so I couldn't use the plug either. I am hard wiring a quad cig ltr plug behind the drivers seat inside the factory sub box. Sure beats hardwiring every single flourescent
To make a long story short, I would just hardwire it where ever you want it mounted and cut the plug. F*ck the cigarette lighter, run it to the fuse box. I would suggest sticking it in the upper left corner of ur dash... great place for the speaker phone too if u have that option.

I'm looking to do something similar with my Sanyo 8100.
I may look more in to a solution like what MMS50L did:

The flexible gooseneck I found at a local cell phone store for about $20, and just had to drill a couple holes to make it fit the phone mount.

The phone is a Samsung SCH-8500. It's a few years old, but has been a great phone. One thing I like is that the car kit, which retailed for $200.00, can be easily found on Ebay for under $30.00.

I just have a wireless network connection to my home DSL, which connects when I pull into the driveway, which suits my purposes of downloading MP3 ID tags.
