Default Keep capacitor charged during non-use

Hi all,

My neighbor has a boat with an audio system including a 1 farad capacitor. While talking with him yesterday, he mentioned having to turn his boat's system on for 10 minutes or so once a week to keep the capacitor charged. He was told it was bad if you don't charge your capacitors every now and then.

I have never heard of this so I thought I'd get input here.

Thanks.

I should add that he has a switch to disconnect the audio system from the rest of the electrical.
