Hi Fudge... What year is your Z and do you have Nissan's OEM navigation?

EDIT: There is probably a way to do this, but asking for more information so we can provide a reliable solution.

Are you asking if you can switch between GPS and DVD on your OEM Navigation screen?

there are many things available thay will allow you to watch dvd's on the OEM screen. I remember NAV-TV being one of them, but regardless you will need a seperate DVD player, a way to switch the source and a little custom modification to the R, G, B and Sync wires on teh back of the screen. You cannot watch DVDs from the OEM DVD-ROM player.

fudge, Here's a link to a device designed to do this:

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundvidnissan1.html

... but, looks as though it is only for 2004-2005 models (that's why I asked the year of your Z). I'm not certain what the difference between the 2003 and 2004/2005 navigation is. Also, it seems costly (I imagine that the price is high since it is an "orphan" product). The price goes even higher since it also needs this:

This is just another reason not to buy the aftermarket navigation unit. The OEM Nissan GPS option costs close to $2k, and it doesn’t match the functions and flexibility you get in aftermarket GPS devices costing much less.

For example, I installed Garmin’s GVN 52 black-box remote GPS and an LCD monitor. The entire system costs $600 and outperforms Nissan’s OEM unit. This setup uses fast ROM and not a DVD disk, has a razor sharp LCD display, and is very inexpensive when updating Navteq maps and application software. I bought the Garmin hide-away GPS box a year ago ($500), and have done two updates that provide updated maps and better application software. So far it has cost nothing (not sure if that will continue forever into the future). The updates are available on Garmin’s website where I’ve downloaded these and put the update on a SanDisk I inserted into the card slot in the hide-away box, ran the update, and was done in just a few minutes.

Adding a rearview camera to the “system” is simple (I prewired the setup using an A/B/C illuminated switch), inexpensive (about $25), and provides more functionality (my setup allows the camera to be always on, on only when in reverse, or never on). I have not installed the rearview camera yet, but all the wiring is in place.

Of course if your car already has Nissan’s OEM navigation, you’re stuck with trying to make this work they way you want. It’s not easy, and aftermarket solutions are expensive.
