Stock cd changer control w/ aftermarket head unit
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out. I have an 04 roadster w/ the stock headunit (not bose). I'm looking to upgrade my entire system, but would like to keep the stock 6 disc changer that is located right behind the passenger seat. Its pretty conviniently located so I think it would be nice to keep it. Unfortunately, no one seems to know if it is capable of being connected to an aftermarket head unit. Any ideas?
I see that you are not receiving any responses. Very likely no one knows the answer. With this in mind, I am offering some clues and suggestions, but in no way can this be considered a solution or definitive answer.
If you have the stock H/U (not Bose), you probably have a Clarion CD changer. Clarion (as do most manufacturers) use a proprietary connection between the H/U and the CD changer. In other words, the two units must be from the same manufacturer. “Universal” CD changers connect to the car’s antenna using an FM modulator which does not provide equivalent sound quality or function controls.
Clarion uses its proprietary CeNET connector or a C-Bus connector to link its CD changer to its H/U models. I have no idea if either of these is used in the stock Nissan setup. In fact it may be something completely different in the OEM installation.
I really think you should consider replacing your CD changer with a model from the same manufacturer of the H/U you install. If you are determined to keep your OEM CD changer, I would have a Professional Installer check the type of connector on your OEM CD changer. If in fact it is a CeNET connector, you’re good to go with a Clarion H/U.
Unfortunately this is probably not a very helpful response. I may be just sending you on a fool’s errand.
