Default Rear view cameras get a significant upgrade

I'm sure some have already read about this.

Nissan’s navigation supplier Xanavi (a unit of Clarion) has a new device, the Around View Monitor or AVM, which greatly improves rear-view cameras. AVN uses four wide-angle cameras positioned at the car’s corners and a processor that produces a 360 degree overhead view extending several feet around the car.

The monitor inside the car displays a split screen. On one side of the screen you see the traditional display of a rear view camera. You can also toggle this view to the front. The other side of the screen displays an overhead view of the car and its surroundings (front, rear, and sides). The overhead view extends a few feet from the car in all directions.

The device debuts on the Infiniti EX35 (goes on sale December 21). I suspect the device will find its way into the rest of Nissan’s lines.

^^ Someone driving a large SUV or cross-over will find the device most helpful (that clearly shows everything in the vehicle’s blind spots); I suppose one would wonder why you would want this on a small sports car.

One great benefit is showing the curb distance or any curb debris (even to inches) from your expensive aftermarket wheels. It certainly reduces wheel scrapes if you pay attention. Heck… Even your gf or wife (or, bf or husband to keep things equal) could pull up to a curb and not scrape the car’s wheels. No more “wheel rash” makes it a valuable device.

This sounds very useful, I can't wait to see it in person.
