I suppose it's time to upgrade. What are some fairly inexpensive but good options. I'm not a huge audio geek but I do like to listen to my CD's.

03' touring w/o nav if it matters any.

Your 2003 Touring model probably has the Bose “upgrade” CES. If that is the case, you definitely want to remain with that solution since CD changers use proprietary connections supporting their functions and features from the same manufacturer’s H/U. You do not want a “universal” CD changer since these usually require connecting to the antenna and deliver a lower quality sound via an FM modulator.

^^ Good point. If your antiquated system is in failure, why not replace it with current technology. I cannot imagine any good reason to go backwards. CDs are pretty much a “dead-end.”

Get a decent head unit with either a usb port or a aux in plug in and while you at it might as well replace the speakers and add a 10 sub in the box behind the drivers seat the way that Nissan did on the Bose system models. You can get the cover at your local Nissan stealership for about $10.00, and did I mention a amp get 2 of em, one for the front and 1 more for the sub in the back.

But then again your not really a huge audio geek. This will make the commute in your Z a pleasure, speed & music.

Hmmm.....that's not a bad idea. I could also use a ipod on my motorcycle as well.

So can you guys point me to a decent replacement system for my car? Would the Pioneer AVIC-D3 be a good replacement? I saw this on another post and I like the idea of adding a nav system however the price is a bit steep.

Or would adding the USA Spec PA11-NIS be a better option?

I really don't mind keeping the current speakers and amp because like I said...I'm not that much an audiophile. Also, please excuse my ignorance but what is the "CES"? Some sort of connector??

^^ The answer depends upon your budget, what you want (navigation, better sound, etc.). If you are satisfied with the sound you have now, replacing just the H/U is an option. If your replacement H/U is not a Bose device (and I think your car has the Bose “upgrade), you probably need an adapter as well. You can find the part (Bose adapter) you need by doing a search on this sub-forum.

CES is an acronym for Car Entertainment System. The term includes all the audio/visual equipment in your car (H/U, LCD(s), amps, speakers, SubW(s), wiring, and add-ons such as a PlayStation).

when you get the car stereo setup a smart idea would be a Microsoft Zune 30Gigs approx $240.00, bigger screen, you can bluetooth music to other Zunes, and best of all ot's not one of the "cutepods"
