not sure.. never heard them.. i was just talking about rear fill in general.. instead of someone getting a set of components and a set of coaxials for the rear.. just get a very good set of components with the money you would have spent on coaxials

Why not put the factory fronts in the rear? Free is always good.

Free isn't "always good" if it's junk.

no... but thats the reaction that was expected.. so i gave it.. however.. i have no problem with JL components.. they remind me of mainstream brands like pioneer, alpine, jbl, kenwood.. just priced a little higher

Well my thoughts are if you are going to turn the rears down so much that it wouldn't make that much of a diff.

Even turned way down, they're thin and "tinny." I really think poor quality speakers only interfere with good sound you put in the front.

IMO the rear speakers on a Z are position poorly ... when i had my maxima they were in the rear deck.. and you could get true rear fill.... in the Z the speakers are sitting right behind your ears.. and to get a nice balance of rear fill to compliment your fronts.. you have to damn near turn the rear speakers till they arn't even really being used.. so really.. what the hell is the point?

^^ Doug… I have Focal components mounted in the front, and stage the sound there (at the front, turning the Infinity coaxial speakers I mounted in the rear-position/slots down to almost nothing). The rear coaxial speakers turned down low provide mostly midrange/bass sounds, and hardly any directional highs. The fill sounds decent and doesn’t detract from the front staging.

I think your suggestion (eliminate the rears and install a SubW) is a better idea. It’s only that I cannot find a good spot to place the SubW.

Here is my suggestion to you as well as anybody asking the rear fill question.

Before you buy the speakers for rear fill, why don't you try the install without rear fill. Tune it up and see if you are missing the rears. If you are, then go ahead and get a set of whatever YOU want. If you aren't then you saved yourself some money.

And with the 4channel amp it'll give you the option of going active in the front in the future with some REALLY nice separates (not that there is anything wrong with the Focals at all).

you are going to drop over $1,000 on a set of speakers and then turn them down hardly using them to their potential? thats why people say get cheap speakers for rear fill

I think he's saying just using the woofer in the rear and the rest in the door.
