Default Alpine W-205 Installation...

I just purchased this off of eBay and am going to install it over my holiday break. I wanted to see if anyone has done this installation and if there is anything else I need or that is suggested. I also got the iPod cable and the PAC-SWI so that I can use my steering wheel controls.

I don't know if I need a certain wire harness, a new bezel, or a sleeve/cage for this new head unit or if the factory one will work. Also I was looking for an installation manual if anyone knows where to pick one up.

The other thing I had a question about was by passing the safety so I can play video while driving. I saw that you can get something to do that but do some work better than others and how difficult are they to install.

Any information would be helpful. Thanks guys and happy holidays!

Cheetah, you will need the Metra dash kit and wire harness for your install. The dash kit will depend on what year of car. The 03-05 is one kit and the 06 and up is another kit. I cant remember the model numbers for the kits off the top of my head. You will not use any cage,,,just the factory brackets off the OEM headunit.

Installation difficulty all depends on your knowledge of car stereo install's,,,if your adding amp's/subs, ect. ect.

As for the bypass,,,there are a couple of options I know of,,,,I have the W-200 and the bypass is the same. You can the the PAC-TR7, ( I think thats the model number), or you can install a toggle switch. I used the toggle switch method (to me was easy). Just tap your brake switch wire with the yellow/black out of Alpine harness,,,,attach the yellow/blue off of harness to one side of toggle and ground the other side of toggle. When activating,,,just press the brake pedal,,,flip the toggle, let off the brake and you have full activation while in motion (for your passengers of course).

I hope this helps somewhat. Good Luck....
Let us know how it goes and attach photos of your install.

Do all the by pass systems require a switch? And if so where to you guys hide them. I don't want it to look tacky.

For the blackbird II do you need the external antenna or does it come with one that works? I don't think I can get the blackbird now but I will eventually and I was wondering if I should install the antenna now.

Anything else I need to get besides the dash kit and harness? Also where do you buy the harness that I need?

PS. I have an 2006 350z

cheetah,,,I am not sure about the blackbird II coming with an antenna. I have the W-200 and the external docking station for my blackbird I. My docking station came with an GPS external antenna.

With the Blackbird II being able to house inside the W-205, I am not sure.

I hope you get everything working ok. If you run into anything,,,check back here,,there are plenty of us who will help/walk you through your install.

Good Luck and congrats on the new headunit.

The hardest part of installing it will be getting it to fit into the bracket you'll need to drill some holes and line it up its not a direct bolt on to the stock bracket.

Still trying to figure out what wire harness, dash kit, and video bypass system to get. I am looking to buy things off eBay. Links to eBay products that you guys used in your installation would be a great help.

Heres what I was looking to get:
