Hi from Spain. can I present my new sq installation?
Hi everybody!
The first thing is tell something about me and apologise for my very bad english.
I´m from Spain (madrid) and I have 23 years old. The car is my 350z year 2004. The previous installation was:
Alpine Iva d300 + PXA H701 & RUXC701
2 amps DLS A2
DLS UP6 (front speakers)
2xDLS W308b
And the only thing that I can say is....DLS is very very expensive for the results that it offers.
And this is my new installation. Under construccion now
Head unit: Nakamichi cd700II
Tweeters: Scan speak d2904/6000
Woofers: Peerless csx 850518
Sub: Scan Speak 25W/5565A00 (10")
Front speakers amplifier: Audison VRX 4.300
sub amplifier: Audison VR 209 (old school)

I have problems with the front doors woofers installation. I think that the stock emplacement is very bad, because there is too many space between the speaker and the door panel. The woofer is very low and closed by this way. Any idea?
Adam I saw your installation this morning and... I don´t have enough words to describe it. Incredible work and material. But if I have to choose only one thing...I´m impressive with your door panel. Congratulations

See the big difference between these three woofers.
Dls up6 (old woofers)
Dynaudio MW160 (my brother´s woofers)
Peerless CSX 850518 (new)
This difference is bigger when you can hear them.
I think that Naka´s lighting matches perfectly in this car.

looks good is DLS a lot more expneive in spain than here? cuase around here, its hard to touch us interms of dollar/performance againts our peers
the UP6 was never my favorite speaker in the lin eup though, but you should check out the new, redesinged UP6i, a much diffrent animal.
but still, i just want to point out you didnt exactly try the creme of hte DLS line up, being the A3 as your amp choice, and the iridium or nobelium as your speaker choices. and the dynaudio speaker you have there, is a LOT more than the UP6, in the US, by a factory of what? 3-4 times? i am curious to see how the scan speak sounds though...
sounds like you had a pretty small system before, with A2s and the W sub...but if its indeed that expensive over there, then its understandable, you may faint if you ever see DVFlyer's system

Alex,
Nice write-up with good comments and excellent pictures.
I really like your H/U choice.
Your tweeter position is unique (looks good). A question: Does the sound staging work well with this tweeter position?

A pillar tweets oyu either want to face them directly across at each other, or face them on axis at the listener. he went for the onaxis method

Bing,
Positioning the tweeter has been the most challenging part of my installation. The sail panel (the Z’s stock position for its OEM setup) gave the worst result when I tried putting the tweeter in different positions. I finally settled on installing the tweeter in the A-pillar, facing forward, and firing towards the front windshield. The idea being the very direct sound from a tweeter would bounce off the windshield and come back towards the center of the passenger compartment. That seems to work OK since it provides the illusion of sound coming from the front, but I think I lose distinct left/right presentation of the sound. I’ve never been 100% satisfied with my tweeter setup.
Here is a picture of my car’s tweeter A-pillar mount:
Actual Tweeter is the physical location of the tweeter and Tweeter Reflection is the approximate bounce angle of its sound output that hopefully ends up near the center of the car's front seats (driver and passenger) with at least a little differentiation between right and left channels. Truthfully, I'm probably being more hopeful than realistic.
Alex has mounted his tweeters differently (in the A-pillar and far forward of the sail panel, and "firing" across the front of the car with both tweeters faced at each other). I would guess that his mount requires time alignment, but at least his setup is not blasting the highs directly towards the driver or passenger. I think that is also your point (please correct me if I'm wrong here).
I guess the best place for tweeters in the Z would be inside kicks (but I do not have kicks in my car so I really don't know if this is true).
Thanks for posting your comments,

well, wha ti meant is, if you want to do A pillar tweet mount, IMO you wanna do it either directly firing across at each other. but thats not what you have going on in your car, you have it firing at the windshield, which reults in, as you say, the sound bounching off hte window, when sound bounces of windows, all sorts of weird thigs happen, the phase, for example, can reverse, causing cancelation issues. as far as ypour lack of left right presentation, without hearing it, its hard for me to say...
the other way, is as he has done it here, is to point them on axis as the same-side lisenter, the DLS beatle for example, has them in this method. that is fine also, it just varies dpends on the interior, the tuning, the speaker etc.
but regardless, unless you have a really werid car wher the A pillars are relaly far from you, you will always need some kind of time alignment to get a solid center image. that is not to say kicks cnat benefit from TA as well, but from my experince, the A pillar mounts need a bit more, hence more likelihood of the car becoming a one seater car.
well, hit me up end of next week or the week following, i have will have a fresh 350Z install with a good bit of focus on SQ, with A pillar tweets so then i can tell you first hand what i find out
