SQ Headunit Recommendations

has anyone mentioned the alpine 205 (or the new 505) with a H701 processor? its about hte most common goto headunit/processor combo for the SQ crowd. and for the Z, with its dash relaly made well for a double din, its my choice for any of my Z customers looking for serious SQ.
if you are even more serious, there is always the pioneer ODR, alpine F1 status (if you can find one still)...
i personally prefer the new untis that also has a lot of tuning power in addition to a clean converter.
and based on your set up listing, i think its a pretty good sq system, but not quite serious SQ enough to really warranty dpending htat much on a single headunit that does nothing but play a cd

playing a CD well is all I honestly care about...and its simple to look at. I cant stand most of the newer units, just way too flashy. Plus, we got a kick *** deal on the Mac
Way too good to pass up
I thought about the 205, but heard from more than one person the menu options were a pain to sort through. I also might be weird, but I didn't like how they are so touch screen centered...leads to messy screens. In that regard, I liked my Kenwood, if for nothing else that it had most every function accessible without having to touch the screen itself.

The overall sound quality variances per channel are due to alot of factors - bandwidth is only one factor.
For example, you said: “Satellite radio quality is akin to the quality on a decent ipod burn, at best.”
You burn CDs and DVDs, but you don’t burn to an iPod; you copy digital files to the iPod’s HD. Sure, this is an argument about semantics, but it’s best to be accurate.

That statement is bogus. Either my Clarion’s CD player is awful or the Clarion’s Sirius tuner is great because I get excellent and equal quality from my Clarion H/U when playing CDs or Sirius satellite.

EDIT:
On the Alpine site, the W205 has an icon for "processor Control", I guess that's my confirmation.

I got out of audio in 01 and have never questioned putting anything in my Z b/c the market has gotten so flooded with functions and eye candy, I hated it. Nice components and I agree that the clarion and mac units are sweet, and the mac will match your amp. Is that not a 10 year old amp, the part no. seems familiar and again I have been out of the game? I miss old school components...
Again, sorry to be somewhat off topic, just pleasantly pleased!

mainstream equipment may have a bling factor
non-mainstream ZERO bling

I got the McIntosh MX406 - going up to the installer tomorrow - I'll have the car back next weekend with any luck (doing some other stuff and system tuning at the same time).

Or maybe make it so its not always visible and something you can flip up into the sunglasses holder. You should have never asked for my opinion...
By the way AFAIK the tuner you have will only work with a Kenwood deck so you will be needing to get a new sirius tuner.
