Another AvicD3 Q

Another AvicD3 Q
I tried searching and researching as much as possible.
I like the sound of the new Kenwood DNX5120 (IIRC) due this spring, but pending price, the AVICD3 is my next choice. I like the interface with buttons easily accessible on the side, the ability to change button colors, and I only need something simple so I like the price.
I rarely plug in addresses to my NAV. My last car had NAV and I used it a lot, but only to look where a road was coming up, if a road went through, etc. I never seeked directions. So I am not sure if I need the HDD or ROM format in the newer versions. But I cannot figure out one thing:
People keep mentioning CD swaps. If I have a CD in my car (don't use iPod), is the NAV still functional? Or do I need a NAV DVD in the slot?
When you install the AVIC unit (or any other unit for that matter) do you lose the 6 disc changer (noob Q)?
Lastly, do these units have enough power to properly supply a good set of after market speaker/sub replacements without needing a new AMP?
Down to the AVICD3, pending DNX5120, and MAYBE the DNX7100/7120...
Thanks a lot. Looks like not much beats an OEM NAV interface/HU...

Since there is only one cd drive on the d3 you need to put in the d3 you need to put in the nav cd look up the directions/map then you can save that info and take out the nav cd and put in a music cd again. as for the cd changer, i assume there is someway to hook it up but im not 100% sure. for a good set of aftermarket speakers your gonna want to get a amp to power them. the d3 puts out more rms wattage than the stock deck, but still not enough to power some good speakers IMO
