Default Turn off audiopilot with new HU

On the 2007, when you change the HU for an after-market unit you loose the ability to turn off audiopilot. Does anyone know if there is a way to hack into the Bose amplifier and turn off the feature?

It is a Bose feature that compensates for rising external noise by raising the volume and vice versa.

OP, I have no idea what you mean. Like I said, it is an HU-based option, not a Z option, so changing to an aftermarket stereo means you simply don't have to deal with it anymore, or with the Bose amp for that matter (it is bypassed). Unless you changed only the HU and are using an attenuator with Bose amp and speakers. Even then, Audiopilot has nothing to do with it.

Uh, apparently, the system runs off the amplifier, not the HU.

Of course, I could be wrong, but if I am, then explain to me why the sound goes up and down EXACTLY how it used to with the OEM HU?

Add to that the reply I just got from Bose. I explained that I changed the HU for an AVIC D3, hooked up to the stock amp through the RCA output, and their response was:

"Hello Antonio,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Bose Automotive Music System in your 2007 Nissan 350Z. In answer to your question, disconnecting the microphone should deactivate the AudioPilot feature if it is still operating.Thank you for contacting Bose Corporation.

Here's the original message to Bose:

"-----Original Message-----

I replaced the head unit (HU) on my Z with a Pioneer AVIC D3. Before removing the HU, I made sure to turn audiopilot off. No offense, but I don't like that feature.
After installing the new HU, I find that the audiopilot is active again.
What is the proper procedure to disable that feature: disconnect the microphone, or something else?

I stand corrected. But I cannot imagine why you chose NOT to bypass Bose amp when you replaced the HU. It is a mismatch for the ohm output of your new HU; are you even using an adapter to match the two? But anyway, that's a whole other topic. You will find threads on that here with a search. For now, unplugging the microphone input should certainly defeat AP.

Not at all corrected. It was safe assumption, to think the audiopilot was controlled by the HU. I emailed Bose again to make sure that I got their instructions right, and that they understand what I removed and what I left in place.

My thinking was that all I wanted to do was add a nice iPod interface and Nav. From my research, the only non-Bose component is actually the HU, so I figured the amp and speakers would work fine. And they do a nice job, except for the @#$ audiopilot.

Follow response from Bose:

"Hello Antonio,

In answer to your question, yes the microphone feeds directly into the amplifier assembly and after more research on your question I have found out that disconnecting the microphone could cause fluctuations in the amplifier output.Thank you for contacting Bose Corporation.

You need the .03 fix. There used to be a thread a zillion years ago.

See, the original 03 HU dudn't have a way to turn off audipilot, so you had to unplug the microphone and put in a resistor across the plug, to fool the amp to a constant signal. I would have to search the resistor size.

Later HUs came with a way to turn the audiopilot off.

I will search and see if I can find it.

Here it is : https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....light=BOSE+fix
