Default What would you recommend?

Hey my current system is:
1) MB quart QSD 216 components running off a jl 300/2 amp
2) Clarion Max675vd touch screen HU
3) 1 JL W6v2 sub running off of a jl 500/1 amp in a zenclosure box.
all speakers in stock location no door pods.

My problem is that the 3/4" titanium tweeters in the mb quarts are WAY WAY too bright and sharp. they not only give me headaches but make alternative and techno music unlistenable. also the mid bass from the slim mids are pathetic and pretty much have no bass. (this is even after having my system tuned by a professional. he lowered the crossovers to -6db, the max, and says it's still way to sharp for his tastes as well).

I've been reading that focals, rainbow, cdt, and diamonds are awesome brands but don't want to get something that is the same as my mb quarts.
I listen to rap, r&b, techno, ballads, and alternative mostly.

What do you recommend from these brands for under $300 for me? also can 1" tweeters fit in the stock location or do i need to go with 3/4"? I will also be running coaxial rears of the same brand off the HU power because after 4 months of driving without rears, I personally want them .

Also i'm using the stock spacers with the old speaker cut out for the new speakers, but when i look at it with the cover off, the edge of the speaker cone is touching the door. I must've been this way stock but will this affect my sound?
thank you.

this is all i could find for dls at sonicelectronix.com
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_1049...S6+-+RS6A.html

however i noticed it's a paper woofer which is the same as stock speakers. aren't paper woofers less durable and more likely to rip and buzz in a shorter amount of time? also, i'm assuming that the 1" tweeter will fit in stock location?

If the Quarts are too bright, you won't like the focals either as they tend to be even brighter than MB quarts. CDTs are much more mellow and relaxed, but at the expense of some detail that you might find in the quarts and focals.

The CDTs sound like a good fit though. Some image dynamic chameleons are nice and mellow as well.

False. Treated paper woofers (quality ones) are just as durable as any other material. Different woofer materials have different sonic characteristics. Paper tends to be warmer than plastic, metal or fiber cones.

My contribution to this thread:

Since you don't like the MB Quarts, you probably didn't demo them before purchasing. Learn from your past mistake and DEMO COMPONENTS BEFORE BUYING. Buy what sounds good to YOU and not what others tell you they think you should buy.

Personally, I would try to find people locally who are into car audio (car audio events) and listen to their setups. Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but should give you ideas.

Go to different forums to see if there are people in your area. If you can't find people here, elitecaraudio.com is a good forum too.

Metal tweeters cause fatigue quick and pain after a while with any real power on them

SILK is what i like warm detailed and loud @ hpf 100 and 200 rms

i would do CDT silk @ 100 hpf with 150 rms

i dont even know where to start on this one hehe...but please dont post sonicelectronix as a source for DLS... we spend a lot of effort building hte brand, and its guys like this, selling unauthorized, B-stock passed as new, or even fake stuff that makes it hard for us.

come material has no bearing on overall SQ, if you think just becuase stock has paper cone, that all paper cone sounds bad, then consider that many stock spekares have poly cone, does that mean all polycone spekares (90 percent of htem) sound bad also? thats about the same as saying, my stock stires are horrible, they are made out of rubber, so this michelin PS2 must not be good, cuase its also made out of rubber

its all in the engineering. as long as the final outcome is good, thats what it matters
