Default Removing steering wheel controls

I am going to be adding a double din pioneer or kenwood and I had a question about deleting the steering controls on my 06 enthusiast. Can I replace my control section with a blank, from the base model with no controls? Does that panel just pop off, or is it secured in another manner. All Responses are appreciated - thanks

You will need to remove the steering wheel in order to take off the controls.
There are DIY for removing steering wheel.

Why would you want to delete them? Just use an interface to hook them up to your new headunit.

well...that was the first thing I was planning. The last car I owned, I installed the D3 with the steering control interface(peripheral) and there was a slight delay in the operation. Hence my decision to remove steering controls. I'm not sure if their is a delay, but still, its an extra$50-$100 for the interface.

No aftermarket will compare to the OEM steering wheel controls. There will always be a slight delay when changing the track/volume.

Taking it off wouldn't be a bad idea actually.

Is there any lag in the operation?

is it a direct input to the headunit, or did you have to use an IR transmitter? I didn't know Kenwood had a steering wheel control interface(other than the universal IR ones)
