Finally sick of the stock system and want to upgrade the deck and speakers but not sure what to start with. My buddy is pushing me towards Boston Acoustics and I tried doing research in general about what to look for but I'm just overloaded with info on RMS and watts etc. I read something on only replacing the front speakers because the acoustics of replacing the rear ones would be like listening to a concert backwards? Or should I replace all? Also component Vs. non-component? I've found the deck I want but am just clueless when it comes to speakers. I know I need spacers for the doors. Money isn't a crazy object but I don't need the best of the best. If anyone can help me out with some good suggestions on what to buy rather than having buyers remorse. If i'm not going to be running a sub is there a need for an amp? Thanks again and sorry if these are noob ?'s I'm more of a mechanical guy...

I'm going with a Kenwood X791 (for now) My buddy has it and I like the setup on it. Unless you have a better suggestion of course. I'm looking to spend about $250.00 for the deck and another $250.00 for speakers. And I'm not goi to be running a sub. I listen to literally everything from Iced Earth and Disturbed to Mos Def and Jack Johnson....
i will give you my quick run down.. I like Kenwood.. i'm not sure if the model you chose is the double DIN one.. the one i like is the one that has Ipod Video with their full control unit... its the only deck doing it right now..
usually around here.. we suggest Front Components and a Sub both Amped.. wether you choose a (1) 4 channel amp or (2) 2 channel amps.. thats purely up to you.. WATTS is WATTS.. if you are not buying an amp for both of these.. then don't upgrade them.. we don't like rear speakers around here.. Z's don't have backseats.. rear fill isn't needed
my going affordable choice on Front Components are Diamond Audio D661s ($179) and FI Q 10" Subwoofer ($2xx).. amazing quality.. amazing sound.. they sound better than many $500 components and $500 subwoofers on the market.. for the components.. you really want to get Kick Pods or Door Pods to bring out that front stage sound..
i don't have Diamond's or FI's in my car.. so i am giving you an honest opinion.. not just trying to push the equipment i have

Thanks for the info about the diamonds I've heard nothing but good things about them. I will probably end up getting those and waiting on the sub. i'm not sure if that's the unit or not but I know it's a single din. Do I need an amp if I'm just going to be getting front components?

Thanks... i'm trying to keep my options open so keep them coming. I'm looking for speakers that are good all around and provide enough bass so that I won't need a sub. I was looking at the infiniti 6 1/2's any comments about those?

i agree with spike but if you want something that will provide a little more than the diamond audio 661s their HEX line is known to do that. It's normally a couple hundred more but sonic electronics has it for almost the same price.
I know rear fill isnt needed in this car and i havent spec'd out the rear pods yet but what about a 6.5 sub or mid-driver.
DLS Audio

Elemental Designs

CDT

And i beleive hertz also has something that will work. I think its their ML165. Its pretty cool with some crazy Vcone and handles frequencies from 35hz to 6khz.
Im no audio expert at all and i dont personally own any of these product but if i wanted to go without a sub and still get some bass id prolly try and mount one of these products in my rear pods.

If you really are not going to even be entertaining the idea of a sub in the future, then you will want a component set that can produce some mid bass. And you WILL want to amp these. The Diamond HEX are a good option, as are a couple of the CDT sets. Not many aftermarket components are capable of dipping very low, but that's a story for another thread.
If you will be adding a sub later on down the road then you are open to any components really.....still I would suggest amping them. Once you add the sub and amp, it will round out the sound. You will just have to suffer with no low end until you get the sub.
You could do components in the front and a pair of 6.5 or 7" subs in the rear OE locations but it will require a bit of sealing/damping to get good response from these subs in that location.....and again a 4 channel amp to run the whole show will be suggested.
If you insist on running the fronts without an amp, then don't waste money on components and get a good but inexpensive coaxial and put in stock location. I can suggest a great set of coaxials if this is the route you want to go.

So I ended up getting a pair of Infinity Kappa 62.7i speakers and to match that I'm going to pick up a Kenwood DDX512 HU. Question now is which amp would go good with that setup? Also do the Kappa's come with tweeters for the pillar? If not, what would be a good match? Thanks and again sorry for the noob questions but I'm learning a lot.

Sorry threw me off a little. So I don't need spacers/doorpods? Do they mount up like stock?
