Here's another point. There are two sets of RCA plugins in the back of the unit for your speakers. You can hook up the fronts regaurdless, but the other set of plugins is for EITHER the rear speakers OR the sub. So what I did was buy a set of RCA splitters so I could plug in both the front and rear RCAs into the Fronts plugin, but now there are certain songs where the guitar part won't be audible or will only play from the back speakers. I can only assume this is because of what I did. I'm going ot go back and just completely take the rear speakers out of the equation and see what happens.

yeah, the usb extension is fine but if you use the optional kenwood ipod cable then you loose the usb conection. This ipod cable uses the usb conection. Any other way to upload pictures? How do you guys connect your ipod?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'm making this thread because this monitor has a ton of stuff on it, but there isn't a whole lot of technical information about it out there. I've read the manual front to back several times, and even I don't have everything figured out, so this thread is here to help other members with their 512. This unit can be had for $600 at any local Best Buy, which is where I bought mine. You will want the optional Ipod cable as well.
Here's a question I have:
1.) It seems the only way to upload pictures to the unit for your background image is with a USB storage device. This seems like a pain since the connection port for the USB is behind the center console of our cars...so anytime I want to add a new image it seems like I would have to pull out my center console and find that wire back there. Is there an easier way to go about uploading pictures? What's the deal?
If anyone else has any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

best buy installation fee
BB install fee: $105
extra parts: $22 (some extra harness)
kenwood optional ipod cable: $30
ford explorer special installation kit: $22
so, a ridiculous $179 if you decide to install it with Best Buy.

Or the KNA-G510 GPS addon, but if you want NAV, then its a lot cheaper and easier to just get the 5120. I went with the DDX512, because I already had the G510 from a previous install where my DDX7019 HU was stolen.

It's not groundbreaking but the sound is much cleaner, less muddy, and a little more punch to it.
I think this headunit will make a nice foundation to build a good system from, that's why I got it first and then I'm going to add more hardware later.
As far as installation costs go, I paid $300 at Al and Ed's, but you can get it cheaper from other places (like Best Buy).
