Default new headunit

seeing as i do not own an ipod
i am not an xm or sirius subscriber
and i have not watched any dvd's since i bought it

i removed the avic d3

i installed an alpine cda-9886

love it

i did not want to come out of pocket $1k for a mcintosh single din
i could have bought a new in box RF 9420 for $ 600 ( but no warranty )

so my 3rd choice was the alpine

again LOVE it

Default i just did the same thing today!

it took me about 1.5 hours and it is done. it is awesome. the ipod sits right below the deck in a little cubby. i love it. the ipod interface seems pretty easy. i haven't driven the car, but i am sure it isn't going to skip like my bose headunit.
that last photo is because i clayed, polished, and waxed the car today as well!

so I don't know too much about car audio, but I'm in the market for a D3. Why in the world would you get rid of it? I mean, didn't you lose alot of cool features with it?

i am so glad to get rid of that bose headunit. the only thing i lost was the 6 disc changer, which was useless as every f...n cd in it skipped. now i have a cool cuby for my ipod, and a radio with a good ipod interface. oh yeah it sounds great and it is louder.
$299 from crutchfield, and they included the trim kit with the cubby and the wire harnesses. the alpine unit came with the ipod cable. so i spent a total of $299. no tax and no installation fee! i did get stuck a few times, so i just gave them a call, and they walked me through it.
i am very pleased with the alpine, crutchfield and myself!

oh yeah, I can def. see why YOU upgraded, but to the OP, he had a pioneer Avic-D3, and now he has this unit. It almost sounds like a downgrade.

edit* ok, I failed to read, he doesn't need all that glam, sorry carry on.

i am not xm or sirius subscriber, i do not own an ipod, i do not have a back up camera, i don't use the nav

only utilizing cd & fm

i am better off with the cda9886 alpine with 4 volts out over pioneers 2 volts out

better suited for spl

Honestly jesus i can not for the life of me understand why you get rid of a D3 for a S/D unit. It looks worse (doesnt match dash at ALL and doesnt match colors of OEM buttons/guages either) has not even half the features...you lose a touchscreen monitor... and navigation (did you ever use that??)and blah blah blah of other features. But hey, diff strokes for diff folks i guess, right?

All i know is that this monitor has been a panty dropper for me dude, and my daily commute is great now that i can watch movies back and forth from work. I just dont think id get the same results from a S/D anything--even if it was made by microsoft.

There are no double DIN's that can touch a high end single DIN for SQ.....with the exception of MAYBE an Alpine W205/H701 combo. For those who spend a lot of money and install time on high end drivers and amps, it would be a shame to feed it with a sub=par source. A system is only as good as its weakest link.

I had the first gen Eclipse double DIN all-in-one navi unit and loved it for what it was, but the only reason I can see a use for another double DIN is for navi. The DVD function was useless to me since it's illegal to watch a movie while driving .
