Highs force amp to safe mode?
Audio gurus, whats happening?! Haven't been in here in a while, as everything has been going great with the new system until now. Here is what I have installed:
Alpine MRV-F450 Amp w/ front channels running Infiniti Perfects.
Last weekend I popped open my doors to set the little jumpers in the crossovers to the -4dB position b/c the highs from the tweets were killing me! Since then, everything has sounded great w/ the highs in check and getting my EQ tuned so everything is in balance. But twice now I have had the amp go into protect mode, which shuts off the fronts until I turn the HU off and back on. The first time it happened I thought I had blown them out! That first time was from user error, but yesterday it was caused by some highs in a certain track.
Question is: do I need to make a gain adjustment on the amp since I moved the jumpers to the -4dB position in the crossover? It only makes sense, but I wanted to get more authoritative opinions
Lastly: search feature is terrible: "Amp Safe Mode" title only search returns 23 pages of threads

What was the "user error" the first time? Also are the Highs wired at 2 OHMS or 4 OHMS? Sounds like your audio section in the amp is drawing excessive current or you have a faulty protection circuit. Couldn't tell with out looking over the setup an possibly benching the amp.
The amp is 4 channel. The fronts are running the Infiniti 6.1 Perfect components at 75W @ 2 ohms. The rear channels are bridged and are running my sub @ 300W. This hadn't happened until I switched the jumpers on the Infiniti crossover from 0dB to -4dB, so as to lower the harsh highs. I used the stock speaker wiring during install, except from the crossover to the speaker wiring harness in the door.
The user error the first time: I have the PAC-SWIX so that I could retain steering wheel control. There is a delay on the buttons; I went to turn the volume up, held it too long to overcome the delay, and it jumped up past my gain level.
Thanks for your replies, fellas.

I am going to try to reproduce the problem tomorrow using the same track, turn the gain down on the amp, repeat. I would hate for it to be faulty anything
, as this stuff is a pain in the azz, so I am going to see first if it is something I did wrong in the set up.
