It's completely off-centered (it's 5 inches from the passenger door!), and it's HUGE! This is my first Nissan, so I am unsure if this is the XM antenna that came stock with the vehicle in '04. Has anyone seen this XM antenna before? I want to take it off, but it doesn't budge, so I am guessing it's not a magnetic antenna? But on the other hand, I never thought you could "hard" mount an XM antenna?
I want to get an aftermarket stereo, and I don't want this ugly box on my roof. Any suggestions on how to take this thing off? Is it magnetic? Is it bolted to the car? I don't want a damn hole in my roof if I remove this.
Thanks in advance for the help!
on my previous car, my XM was a double sided tape and a magnet. I use to use it without pulling off the tape because it stuck on well just with the magnet but if it doesn't move, the person must have used the tape as well.

Heat the roof area and antenna base with a hairdryer, then twist to break the tape seal (easier than pulling straight up). Be careful so as not to scratch the paint.
I'm not sure why the antenna is so large.

Anyone following the manufacturer’s instructions when mounting an antenna for XM or Sirius satellite radio would arrive at this result (which is horrible and ugly).
You do not need to mount the antenna on the outside of the car. I would recommend mounting the antenna on top of the dash or on top of the rear strut. You can bury the antenna below plastic layers for a more stealth installation, but doing this won’t provide the best reception.
This is a picture of a Sirius satellite antenna meant for exterior mounting.
A: The antenna receiver
B: The ugly covering for the antenna wire that runs outside the car’s interior
C: The antenna wire that runs inside the car
D: The super-ugly flap designed to hide the transition from the exterior wire to its interior path

that is the exact reason i ordered my Z w/o XM. I believe it is double sided tape. The dealer mentioned that it is a dealer installed option and they tape it on there. BUt we all know how accurate sales people in dealerships are

I have a lot more confidence in the Sponsors here on my350z.com.

That is one of the original XM antennas. When XM first came into the market the antenna were HUGE, like yours. It has a magnet, but if it won't move like others say it is probably taped.
