Default Clarion MAX385VD

Hey gang,

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fELYCfE...px?i=020M385VD

I'm in the market to buy an affordable double-din, touchscreen unit for my DD (S14). While I'm not the stereo guru, I do like my beats. My criteria is (in order of importance):

1. i-Pod interface: has to be on point. I've heard from others that the other Clarion receivers have really dope i-pod interfaces

2. Touchscreen

3. Cheap (it's going in my S14 dd...)

So, to all of you's out there who knows alots.. please chime in and lemme know your thoughts. Your input is valuable. Thanks for readin'!

Well, as I knew it was just a matter of time, Clarion is starting to make a comeback. After a few years of relatively poor showing of products, they are starting to up their game to get back up where they used to be almost 8 years ago......a top notch source unit manufacturer.

This exact unit is a great example of this. To highlight some of the strong features that I feel make this a HUGE bargain for the money:
* 24-bit D/A Converter
* 6 ch 4volt RCA Output
* Rotary Volume Control (I love rotary volume *****)
* Rear Audio and Visual Input (good for add-on navi)

I say go for it!

Thanks for your input! One of my co-workers has this one:

http://www.clarion.com/us/en/product...294767357.html

This one has nav capabilities, which don't apply to me for this car. Apparently these can be obtained for ~$600 still. Thoughts on advantages/disadvantages? This one has a 7" screen, which would be rad, but if the technical aspects don't outweigh the new one, I wonder how much difference a 7" screen would be over a 6.5" for ~$100+.. Thanks again!

For the extra hundred for the MAX675, you get a 7" screen, nav and bluetooth capabilities. Same d/a converter and preamp output specs. internal power is a little higher for whatever that's worth to you. not sure if you are using outboard amps in your dd or not. The 675 is a very nice unit and does not get the recognition it deserves IMO.

I am using an outboard amp in my S14, yes. I'm strongly considering the 675 now, given your input. Finding them new around $650ish, and refurbed for $430+. Thoughts on refurbished Clarion?

Thanks again!

If it's a traditional refurb, then the units were sent to Clarion for repair for whatever reason. Clarion rebuilds them to work and look like new and they will come with a factory warranty (if purchased from an authorized dealer). If you are looking on ebay and finding them, then you will most likely not be buying from an authorized dealer and you will not get the warranty from Clarion, just make 100% sure you will get a comprehensive warranty from the store.

I just installed my max35dv, go to cartronix.c_m you wont believe the price! This thing is GREAT! It is rated as THE BEST ipod controller BTW. I have always loved clarion and this unit is proving they are ready to compete.
