i just recentluy asked a similar question but didnt quite get the answer i was looking for. so imma try one more time.
i am ordering a jl 10w7 and am looking at jl amps. i see there is a 500/1 class d mono block amp, as well as the newer slash series 500/1 amp. can anyone tell me the pros and cons of each, or which would be better to run my one 10"?

I'm guessing you are asking the difference between the 500/1 and the 500/1v2?
As quoted from the JL Audio website:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_a...hp?page_id=221
Slash v2 Amplifiers :
The original Slash amplifiers set new performance standards for automotive amplification and became the best-selling premium mobile amplifiers in history. The new Slash v2 amplifiers build on this legendary technology platform, enhancing it in a variety of key areas, like radically improved thermal performance, a beautiful new stackable chassis design and dozens of tweaks aimed at improving performance, flexibility and reliability. There is no magic and no guesswork here... just pure technology, refined to the last detail.

not ANTI-JL .. as i said.. if they would lower their prices.. i would gladly recommend it to people..
just like the Stillen Supercharger.. if Stillen sold them for the performance they gave.. i would gladly tell people to buy them.. my guess is the for performance the Stillen SC should be $2,000
my 'lol' was to a v2 amplifier which probably cost more than the v1.. but does the same thing.. maybe even less.. but look at the marketing and how they word stuff.. just makes you want to run out and buy an amplifier v2 for more money that does the same or less than v1

I agree wholeheartedly with doug. I don't think JL makes garbage equipment. However I feel you can spend less money and get the same or better quality. The thing with JL amps is that they are trying to implement features to sell them, but these features (or a majority of them) are not needed 90% of the time. It is their marketing department's magic at work again.....let's take a closer look shall we?
The "v.2" page shows the following features in use on their v.2 amps:
RIPS - regulated power supply. Provides constant output power over a broad range of battery voltages and impedance loads. Me personally, I would rather have an amp that will give me 'more for my money' into lower impedance loads. But JL does this because most of their subs are 3 ohm if I'm not mistaken, so this way, no matter if you wire them in parallel or in series you will still get the same power from their amps.
Patented class D circuitry - high efficiency without sacrificing fidelity. But their class D amps are not full range, so you wouldn't use it on your mids/tweets.....so who care too much about a hairline improvement in fidelity for a sub playing nothing but below-80Hz frequencies?
Patented Absolute Symmetry A/B Circuitry - I guess this 'might' be useful if you run your components at 2ohms....otherwise who cares?
Monolithic RealSink and Advanced Heat Management - is heat really a problem with most modern amps?
Differential-Balanced Inputs - If you run a quality RCA cable properly, you should have no problem with noise, thereby not needing this feature.
Flexible Preamp Outputs - does anyone really daisy-chain amps these days?
Active Crossover Features - I would much prefer to use the crossover in my headunit than on the amp.
Bass Control Features - most other monoblock amps have a bass boost feature.
Remote Bass Control - this is optional with the JL amps, but many other monoblocks come with a bass ****.

The 500/1v2 is supposed to dissapate heat better. Whether that is the case or not, I can't tell. As far as sound goes, they are exactly the same. JL specifically made that amp for the 10w7, however for the price of that amp, you could get something just as good for possibley less. JL's amp retails for $630 while Arc Audio's ks500.1 retails for $399. JL's amp sounds more punchy for the w7, while the Arc will sound more deep.

I'm with streetoc192 and doug here. Jl makes a real good product if u dont take in the $ factor. I'm happy with my elemntal designs amp. There are alot of brands out there u wont see in a magazine but that are superb amps. Plus i kinda like when people are like wtf kinda subs and amp and stuff is that ****. Then they are amazed @ it when they hear it, Then the jaw dropping factor when i say i paid half as much as their Jl equipment.
