05 Z CD Player quit working
Went for a drive on saturday and stopped for a bit to eat, we got back in the car and the cd wouldn't play, it tries to play and then comes up "push eject" and do that and nothing happens, i push one of the cd button(as if you were going to select which cd you want to play) and it just beeps at me, anyone ever heard of this? solutions
Hi, I had this happen to me last month. I have the 6-disc Bose changer. It often skipped, was fussy about loading/ejecting, and I always suspected it was a piece of junk. Now it's unusable. This finally confirms it.
I'll post if I figure out what's wrong.

SOLUTION: a hammer; and investment of aftermarket headunit.
You describe a common problem with the Z’s H/U.
Are you still in warranty?
If so; problem solved.
If not; good time to upgrade to an aftermarket H/U since it would be foolish to have the stock H/U repaired.
Look at the bright side… you win either way (a free repair or a much better H/U).

Certainly Alpine makes great products. I really like the "feedback-feel" you get when pressing an Alpine touch-screen monitor to execute a command/function.
I would also take a look at Kenwood. That’s because Kenwood offers a plethora of component options that fit the Z quite well. For example, Kenwood provides two solutions (Kenwood KOS-L702 Remote Touch-Screen Monitor and Kenwood LZ-702W Monitor) for a 6.95” screen in the upper/forward cubby.
The KOS solution (Kenwood KOS-L702 Remote Touch-Screen Monitor teamed with a Kenwood Controller KOS-V500 or KOS-V1000) is operable with either a handheld remote control or touch-screen function. The KOS system is scalable allowing the addition of any number of components (video, rearview camera, iPod, USB devices, etc.) and really has no limit on expansion. It even works with your factory H/U (allowing you to keep that in place if that is what you want, and you might want to, for example if you have a leased car).
The Kenwood LZ-702W Monitor (fits the Z’s upper/forward cubby) teamed with a DVD player and/or a Kenwood navigation device is a less costly solution when you don’t need the KOS system.
The component concept that is a part of Kenwood’s philosophy allows the installation of complex systems that defy obsolescence.
Alpine and Pioneer (very good products) can’t do what I describe above.
