I can recommend you not go with the rears at all. get some door pods and a nice set of components. I listen to rap and I got a set of focals and love it.

I second that, a good set of front speakers and a sub is all you need. Rear fill in a 2 seater is not needed. What kind of budget are we talking here? This will be the most deciding factor as the sky is the limit in terms of what you can spend on audio these days. If you're in North Cali, give a shout out to Bing aka 16psibrick, he'll hook you up.

I'd rather not run rear speakers and increase my budget for front speakers as that's what you're going to hear. We're not talking about a competition install either. Rear speakers are run for rear fill and since you have no back seats there is no need for rear speakers as the front speakers are what you're going to be hearing. For your application it sounds like all you want is for it to be a little louder and clearer. A good set of 6.5" components in the front door with door pods and a two channel amp is all you need unless you want to add subs. For the front speakers you could go with Phoenix Gold RSd65cs which retail for $159 but sound great especially for their price. For the 2 channel amp, you can get a Sundown Audio SAX-100.2 for $229. Then get the Wicked C.A.S. door pods for $289.95. The rest of your budget I'd spend on sound deadening your doors.

My current box is very similar to this one from ZEnclosures except mine is ported. I run one JL 10W6v2 and a pair of AVI 6.5" components in the door but it's all getting replaced next month. These are pics of the new box I'll be using which will house 2 TC Sounds OEM 10's. It fits behind the strut bar just like a JL Stealthbox.

6.5 is all you need. I mounted my amp in the cubby behind the drivers seat. I'm finishing the rest of my system this weekend so when thats done I'll post pics so you can see what I did.

Talk to Mike at ZEnclosures if you're looking for the exact same box. Just keep in mind that the box I have only has about 1.7 cu. ft. total so about .85 cu. ft. per sub. My subs made for smaller boxes so make sure the check the specs on whatever subs you have. As far as door pods, stick with 6.5's as 5.25's are too small to give you any good midbass and custom fitting 8's into door pods will just cost you more money not to mention that with 8's it's better to go 3-way. My amps are mounted in the factory sub location behind the driver's seat. Just be warned, there's not a lot of airflow in that space so I had to put a fan in there as my amps were shutting off.

For those running front speakers only, do you remove the stock rear speakers entirely? Or do you just leave them stock and let them do their thing?

and what about tweeters?

I just disconnect them and leave them in.
