Yeah, this stuff confounds me

I just checked out my sub, and it is wired in series. We can rule that out as the problem then, right?

PDX-4.150, time to give you a shot.

Yes, the dual 2ohm coil sub wired in series = 4ohm load to the amp. I believe that alpine amp you have now is 4ohm stable bridged, so you should be fine from a load perspective. I'm racking my brain to figure out what could cause an over current condition to the amp if it's not a low impedance load.........

Would the components be causing it, maybe one could be blown? I doubt this is the case, as they were brand new, and I was never able to turn them up past 21-22.

The only thing that keeps popping into my mind is a shorted out speaker wire, but that shouldn't be causing the trouble you describe, that would be an immediate protection switch as soon as you turned on your system. I'm sure your components are 4ohms, right?

are your components 4 ohm
as Streetoc192 asks?

very few 2 ohm comps out there, actually RE XXX are the only 2 ohm that come to mind

i doubt your comps are 8 ohm

so are they 4 ohm

you might have a shorted speaker wire

you might be touching the component terminal to metal inside door and this may be a short

Thanks for the replies StreetOC192 and 350zspl, you guys have been great support through this difficult time Yes, speakers are 4 ohm.

I get my new amp on Friday, but before I jump the gun and install, I am going to check my door speaker lines to see if everything is good to go.

There has to be a logical explanation for the problem. I am very interested as to what that explanation is.

Well, I operated on my car yesterday, and didn't come out so hot. I bought some better speaker wire to use, and I replaced the old stuff just to help rule out faulty wiring. Got the passenger side door finished, onto the driver's side... had everything wired up and ready to connect, and the little screws of the crossover inputs were off thread or something and wouldn't tighten enough to hold the wire they were good to go before I loosened them, so I am completely perplexed as to why they shat the bed on me I tried everything (torquing from different angles, pulling them out to rethread them, and nothing worked.

Crossover = useless now The good news is, I have an excuse to buy newer, better speakers

BUT, I think I found out what was causing the CUR error, though I never had a chance to see if I was correct or not. The circuit board of the Infinity crossover rattles like hell, loud enough to annoy the crap out of me. SO, in a now admittedly NOOB maneuver, I placed some Fat Mat at the corners to hold it to the plastic housing. It wasn't touching anything vital, UNTIL it decided to loose it's adhering power and droop down and touch a resistor wire Yeah, it seems I am to blame for this one how else would I have stopped the thing from rattling though?

So it may seem that my amp is still good afterall, which saves me $460! But I need new components now. Any suggestions?

WOW, well you live and you learn huh? I never would have guessed that to be the problem

I'm very glad you figure it out. And as for components, of course I'm sure you know that this is a very personal choice. But some good SQ oriented brands to look at are Focal, Diamond, Rainbow, Morel...etc. It depends on your budget.

Could you maybe call Infinity and see if they can get you a new crossover?

I am going to try out the Polk SR line next, and keep the PDX amp I'll be out of money for a while, but my ears will be happy!

The sad thing is, after I put everything back together (minus the driver's side of course), I disconnected the driver side speaker connections from the amp and listened to the system, and DAMN does it sound good, even with just one side working! The sub is hitting a lot harder now too, and the 1 side Infinity component sounds brilliant! I think that loose piece of Fat Mat was really sapping my system's potential

But I am set on getting the Polks, as I have a "connection" there I think I am going to get some kicks too, because if I have to tear my doors apart one more fricken time, I will go crazy! Not to mention, everyone says the stock location would never let me experience the Polk SR's in their full glory.

Oh, and "FS: 1 Alpine MRV-F345"
