if you dont have nav, you can easily attach it to the top of the headunit inside the dash and it will work fine. ask jtree007, he did his that way. btw, the nav gps antenna is in the dash also.

There is only one thing that will always mess with an internal M radio signal, and that is metalized tint. Many top end tints are laden with some form of titanium or aluminum. Thses tints will inhibit gps and sat radio signals. Apart from that if you have a line of sight to the sky youre fine. Just to be safe, mount it as close to glass as you can.

Here is mine and it is fine. Actually, you don't necessarily need a direct line of site either. I still get reception on my XM when it is IN MY GARAGE. I still haven't figured that out yet. I suppose it is some kind of reflection of the signal off of something in the garage. I do have windows in my garage but still no direct line of site to my antenna.

My Sirius Satellite antenna is in the exact same spot as Bonz.
It works perfectly. I have never lost reception (unless in a tunnel or my garage). If I had it to do all over again... I wouldn't change a thing.

Kitkos, do you have tint on your car? I have my antenna in the exact location and I am getting alot of dropouts. Alot more than when I had it in my previous car. The only difference is that I have 27% tint now. Same thing for you Bonz, you have tint? I was thinking that maybe my antenna was just crappy so I was looking at a new one.

Doc Bonz, how did you mount your XM controller to the dash? I saw a picture of it in your gallery and it looks very clean. I am trying to decide if I should mount mine there or in the nav compartment. Any sugestions?

I've had XM in a couple of cars--tried inside, i.e. back window shelf and had reception problems. In the Z I had it mounted just above the small window nub on the roof. The new ones are fairly low profile--not like the big mouse looking ones from a year ago. Still too big in my opinion. Maybe because I live in Northern NJ (high population area) cause reception problems.
