Hi guys, just bought a 2004 roadster today. I LOVE IT!
I am lost on how you plan to put these boxes inside that area behind the drivers seat. Are you planning on cutting some of the sheet metal away to get the sub enclosure inside of the cavern?
thanks

im building a box in that will just slide in the huge hole thats created when you remove the stock bracket.
Using the stock bracket there would require the use of a free air sub. Which sound quality is not very good.
My plan was to build a box and attach it to the back of the brackett however the hole for the subwoofer extended almost to the top of the bracket and if you tried to build a box to it, when you put the bracket/ box in the hole the top portion of the sub box will hit and not be able to go all the way in the hole.
Ill post some pics when I get my box all set up

i have an 07 z, and i ordered the wicked cas loaded sub box for the stock location sub with a jl audio 13tw5, i'll post reviews here and on a separate thread here shortly. it is supposed to arrive here tomorrow. i assume i would be able to post a decent review no later than friday.
i'm getting a custom box built in mine in that same spot. i got myself a Kicker L7 Solo Baric and they're gonna build me a ported box and get that thing nice and clean. i'm thinking of asking them to build me a sealed box instead. L7s dont really need a ported box. just an amp that can push it
Mine sounds great. Lined the complete emclosure in 2 layers of DynaMat and got the Blose cover from the stealership for about $9.00 dropped in a 10" Rockford Fosgate dual voice coil stage II sub. I also had to use some foam weatherstriPPing to stop the Blose cover from vibrating.
Sure why not use this location, NiSSan engineers built this to house the Blose 10" sub..

I really hate to bring back an old thread, but I wanted to comment on this.
If you're looking to utilize that space, YES it will sound a little worse than a sealed enclosure, but if you're SERIOUS about using it standalone, you're going to want to look into a free-air subwoofer.
A free-air system consists of woofers mounted to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk of the car acts as an enclosure which houses the subwoofer and isolates sound from the back of the speaker, solving the sound cancellation problem of subs without an enclosure.
Free-air systems save space and have flat frequency response. The woofer must be specifically designed for free-air use. The lack of a box makes them more convenient to install, but their power handling levels are usually much lower than their boxed counterparts.
Do a search on google for "free air subwoofers" and you'll get back not only a bunch of results with products, but you can learn more about them if you're serious about NOT using an actual box and just using the existing framework.
