Default 03 Bose System? Poor sound quality?

I just picked up an 03 Z Touring with the Bose system, I love the car and am impressed in every area... except the sound quality from the stereo. The treble is turned all the way up, yet it sounds really hollow, like there are no tweeters at all. The speakers dont sound blown... just like something is missing.

Anyone ever come across this before?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah. It's called "Bose". The system really is absolutely terrible. If you search, you'll find plenty of people complaining about it and ultimately replacing it. I know I did.

Oh sweet! Another Bose thread!

I can compare Bose with the audio equivelent of Chinese water torture with sulphuric acid. I would rather kick myself in the junk than have to put myself to listening to the garbage Bose system one more time.

"No highs...no lows...must be Bose"

You think the bose sucks, try the stock radio. After two weeks of listening to that junk I replaced mine. My friend has the bose and it blows.

Well i'm glad to know i'm not alone here, thanks guys. I guess when you pay good money for something you expect the best quality, My old SVT Focus had an Audiophile system that sounded incredible and i paid 1/3 of what i did for my Z for that car.

Guess i'll start checking out the replacement threads, see whats best. Thanks again

did the bose system get much better for the 07/08 models? I have an 07 and I'd like to think i know a thing or two about music/sound quality, and i've got no complaints about this system.

I have never ever seen a Bose system that couldn't have it's behind kicked dollar-for-dollar by any other brand - home or car stereo system. Bose is a marketing company for low-mid-range quality china garbage in pretty packaging.

Let's look at the "subwoofer" and it's matching "amplifier" from a '05 35th Anniversary Edition. The large chunk of metal between the two speakers isn't the missing magnet for the Bose speaker motor - it's a spare pole piece to tune the Q of the Infinity speaker. Infinity speakers are nothing special BTW - good enough in my checkbook though.

Here's the "amplifier" - yeah, that little tiny box about the size of a fuse box is the amplifier.

Oh heck, one more. I took the 4-channel amplifier apart to see what majik was going on in the inside. None. There are no heavy power transistors - only integrated circuits which typically max out about 5-8 watts worth of power.

yea, I was never impressed with the stock stereos in the Z's. The sub behind the seat idea was cool but that stock sub has like no bass!

Man, and I thought I was just used to 2 10's. There really is no bass from the Bose. My mom's old sport trac, with 4 factory speakers, would hit harder.

And I was hoping Bose had improved since I dealt with their home stereo systems. It came with the car anyways, but now I gotta replace the head unit. Whole thing might not be a bad idea.

It's OK IMO. Gets the job done at least but I'll be upgrading soon.

The system in the car is terrible. If you read a few threads here, they fail alot and we all know they sound terrible. The Bose name is pretty much synonymous for "overpriced." I sell home audio/video equipment and the same is true there. Give me half the money a Bose system costs and I can get you a stereo that sounds better. Bose has the best marketing department in the world. They are also very small and easy to use, which is a must for some people. . .
