Replacing Bose radio with non-Bose radio in 03 350z?
Heres a silly question I can't seem to find or get the answer to (yes, I used the search option).
Can you replace a Bose radio with a non-Bose radio, and if so will there be any difference in sound or is it just the addition of tape and 6 disc? The situation is that I purchased a Z with an aftermarket system and I want to get it back to stock. I can't seem to find a used Bose radio but several non-Bose. Would I be able to take out the aftermarket radio and install the non-Bose radio with no issues (in quality in sound)? Thanks in advance for your help!
I will be out on the road so if possible, please shoot me an email: 06tacotrd@comcast.net

The radio is not Bose, the speakers are.
I wonder if there is any difference? I know the bose speaker systems amp uses low level input to run it (20w or something) I wonder if the non bose and the bose stereo have different output levels due to the bose system in the car?
Even if it did, just like aftermarket decks, you would just have to mess with the volume to fix it.

i still have not gotten a straight answer from anyone, no offense to anyone on this forum. i was actually referring to all those "professional" companies out there, EVEN nissan.. the parts dept had no idea.... i will just go with the bose to make sure theres no issues. although, on a site note, i have seen photos of Z's with the Bose pkg and only having the factory radio being the cd player without the changer and tape player. so who knows....

My research indicated that you can only use a bose radio with a bose equiped vehicle since the electronics (speakers and amp) in the vehicle is set up for that type of system. Hope that helps.

Hello,
this seems to be an old thread so im not sure if you ever got an answer but I am about to replace the Bose head unit in my wifes Z with one of those 7" double din gps/dvd/radio/bluetooth/etc etc units and i had to buy this module/adapter.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310343722731...84.m1497.l2649
I also had to buy a few more things that will make the new unit seamless and i hope that you got an answer sooner than this. I will also have a perfect working Bose head unit with for sale in a week or two. All this because my wife wanted bluetooth...
regards,
Doug.

Hello all,
I finally got the new system installed into my wifes Z and it works great. I did need all the extra's that I bought to make the new head unit work with the Bose Amp and speakers etc and the new unit that I installed also had the wires coming from it that went directly to the steering wheel controls and that too works like a charm, In fact the new system that I installed which wasn't a really expensive one sounds better than the Bose ever did and she has more control over the speakers and how the sound system actually sounds.
I now have an immaculate Bose head unit on ebay selling for $95.00 which is the lowest on that site at the moment.
Jimmy, I have no idea what the problem with your radio is but i'm betting that it's something simple.
Happy Holiday's to all.
regards,
Doug.
