dc-to-dc power supply installed, causing radio noise
Hey everyone,
I installed my dc-to-dc power supply for my z pc last night. I grounded it to the frame of the car, and ran power from the large yellow (always on) wire on the HU harness. It works, but when I turn on the pc I get a lot of noise from the radio when i am listening to an FM station. has anyone had this problem? Is this a bad place to tap for power? mabye the power is running to close to my fm modulator? Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!
ps.
I wouldn't mind tapping into the cigar lighter power, but its switched (that I can deal with) but I cannot figure out how to get behind it to solder the wires on.

It's most likely the FM modulator....This is normal.
You say you get it when you are listening to the radio (with the computer on) and NOT when it's tuned to one of the designated fm modulator channels and using your computer?
I would suggest flipping the FM modulator switch to off when you are listening to the radio stations.

yeah, I am not on the channel the modulator is on and it creates a very noticeable fuzzy noise. I just hooked up the modulator to the switched power on the hu harness. looks like its time to install a switch. I wish i didnt need a fm modulator, it sounds like ****.
