How to use aux cable with stock radio?
Hi, I just bought a used 08 350z. I noticed a aux cable that came from behind the radio and it fits a 3.5mm audio jack. How do I use it? I read people usually hook it up to the CD player's audio but the CD player works. Just curious. I'll be replacing the Head Unit soon anyways.
I have an '08 too and I have not noticed an auxillary line input on my radio. Have you taken out the dash and gotten behind the radio? I have not done this yet so maybe thats why i haven't see it... If you have taken it apart, care to provide some instructions (with pics, if its not too much trouble) on how to get the dash out of the '08?
actually, can you take a picture of where you found the auxillary cable? I'm wondering if the aux cable comes standard on the '08 or if the previous owner of your vehicle installed it.

If you bought it used, maybe the owner had an aftermarket stereo in it with the aux cable.
Having removed and replaced my 2008 base head unit, I recall no 1/8" headphone jack. To get an iPod connected, I had to use the usaspec ipod translation box daisy chained to the factory harnesses. From the box you could hook up an extra 1/8" aux input in addition to the ipod though.
You really should find out where that wire originates from. The external changer connects through a harness/plug.

Update: In case anyone was curious, after taking out the center console to put in a new head unit, I found out what the AUX cable was connected to. The previous owner was using a Audiovox FM tuner: http://reviews.cnet.com/car-electron...-31256091.html (I think that's the same model. Looks the same)
I didn't get to test out the unit but I guess it was a good solution if you wanted to keep the stock radio, although you're still listening to FM quality sound..
