Sand, sand, sand!
I would probably get down to 400 grit before applying the filler primer. Three coats paint, three coats clear and wet sand for the polished look.

Post up some pics when yer done!

Well, before you add your filler primer, try using a light coat of some flat black paint or regular grey primer to accentuate any raises or dips in the finish. Concentrate on any trouble areas first then fill, sand and repeat until its perfect. Then you can add your filler primer. I have never needed to wet sand primer - in fact, I would think that with the primer being smooth, the paint has less of a chance to stick to it. make sense?

Sand (and apply more filler if needed) until the surface is perfectly smooth. Each time you think it is, wipe it off with a towel and wax&grease remover. Then hold it by a light source to examine for imperfections.

Use a pretty coarse sandpaper for beginning sanding, and at least get up to 400 grit prior to primering.

After this, then use your primer-filler. Use a couple coats, wait for it to dry fully, and wetsand until it's smooth and the minor imperfections are harder to see if you let any through.

Then, apply basecoat, color coat, clear.
