Default PPI Amps. PC series.

thinking about replacing my JL 250/1 and infinity amps with something better. I'm really curious about old school PPI amps because I've heard so much good stuff about them. Would I be making a mistake getting these or should I stick with newer stuff? im such an audio newb, some guidance would be appreciated.

Personally I love old PPI amps for sound quality. If you go that route you need to make sure you're picking up pre 99-00 model amps though. I think the PPI Art series amps are better than the PowerClass but I rocked a PowerClass PC 2100 for over 8 years before selling it in 2006. Last I heard it had made it's way to California and was still going. I bought that amp new in 1998.

There are some of the Art Series amps on EBAY right now and someone on twinturboDOTnet had some for sale as well. I'm looking at picking up an A600 and an A404 for my next build. I'm wanting to a build with all old school componants.

Looks like you're replacing a small sub amp, in that case I would also recommend some old school RF Punch amps or Hifonics Power from the Gods stuff. An old Hifonics Odin or Zues (pre Maxxsonics) would be a good pick up from a pure power stand point but it's probably no better sonically than the JL / amps.

I'm running JL stuff right now. 500/1 and 300/4.

Any of the Art series or the Power Class stuff that is dark gray or silver is great stuff. I used it and sold it for years. Once they changed over to crazy spaceship looking amps is when the quality took a dump.

Yup. The PC2100 I had was charcoal metallic with the red logo decal. I loved that amp and still can't believe I finally sold it when I did.

Have the PPI PC Powerclass, simply great. They were sold to Directed Electronics in 03 or so and have been "cheap" ever sense.
