So after looking around for the past couple weeks I'm decided on most of the stuff I want to get just thought I'd post it all in one thread to get your guys thoughts on it overall. This will be going into an 03 350z. I am a novice btw and still know very little about car audio so take it easy on me :

You could use some sound deadener (Rammat BXT is the best bang for the back) and you will also need amp to power the sub as well as the wiring (get some from knukonceptz website).

Also, check the mounting depth of those speakers... I heard that max depth that can fit in the stock door location is 2.5" WITH a spacer.

By the way I have the same head unit and my budget is running to about $2,050 without installation cost as I'm doing it myself.

 

I was actually going to buy the Hertz speakers from the place im getting my system installed. They said they could get some to fit. I was also thinking of getting dynamat, its cheaper then I thought like $140 on amazon for dynamat extreme, nine 18" x 32" pieces. How do you like that headunit? What exactly is the extra imprint for and do you think I should get it?

 

Check with Nazar... he is selling Hertz speakers with his door pods which are excellent from what I've heard https://my350z.com/forum/audio-video...-speakers.html. I will be ordering his door pods next week.

Dynamat is good but it's way too expensive... there are other much cheaper alternatives such as Rammat and Second Skin (SS is not as good of a deal as Rammat but it's a great product). However, if you decide to go with Dynamat Extreme, you can get it on eBay for $131 I believe for the same pack as Amazon (36 sq ft bulk pack, 9 of those sheets).

I just bought the head unit two days ago from another fellow member and it should be delivered by next week but from what I read about it... it's a good SQ unit. Imprint helps you tune your car better and you could maybe get Imprint later to tune it but I wouldn't worry about it right a way. Also, you can "rent" Imprint from Crutchfield $50 unless your local car audio place can do it for you.

 

I would definitly get the imprint if you're installing the system yourself..

I had my sound system "professionally" installed and it sounded amazing, I messed around with the front speaker, I bridged the amp to them, didn't think it was worth it.. put every sigal thing back to how it originaly was, even the gains and crossover points.. and it just never sounded the same until I took it back to get re-equalized!

Supposivly the imprint does this for you. I have no first hand experience with it though..

 

Do you guys think that 36sq ft is enough, I want to do the doors, part of the dash and trunk area, will that make a sound noise reduction difference you think that will make it worth it?

ninor, from the looks of his prices it looks like I will be getting mine for cheaper from my installer.

 

36sq foot i doubt it. I think each door is 12 or so depending on which sides you do etc. of course. Then the hatch area is quite a bit.

 

I am getting 32 sq ft of dynamat for the doors and if I have any left over I will use it on the trunk floor/hatch as well as 1 roll of Rammat BXT (60 sq ft). Maybe I'll do the roof too if it's not a ***** to take a part and I still have some Rammat left.

 

ninor, let me know after you install it how much you got covered and how big of a difference it made.

 

I will let you know how much I used in my doors but I won't know how much of a difference it will make as I will apply Dynamat before I try out my new speakers. However, I do know that even with stock speakers, I hear some rattles in the doors and I'm sure those will be gone.

well, the stuff you have going is not bad, but to me, its hwere you put speakers is more important in the Z than mots cars...just my opinion...

if someone came to me ...i would prolly do something like a zapco Iforce 7 channel amp, so you can run a fully active set up wtih 50 watts for tweet, 200 watts for midbass, and 600 watts for sub, all in one solution and a better amp IMO than the kicker, do something in the range of your HSKs or sometihng in my inventory in kicks upfront, and some kind of 10 in the zenenclosure box.

but would prolly go over your budget...

it seems you are going for a decent entry level setup wtih the 9887, whcih allows an active two way upfront and sub with decent amount of tuning.

 

So do you guys think I will need to upgrade my battery or anything like that. Just did a quick search for Kinetik since I have heard a lot about them and can get a Kinetik HC800 for around $100. What about a capacitor, can get a fosgate 1 farad for like $50 since I get discount at bestbuy. Or is none of that really necessary.

 

The HC800 is pretty small. It would be ok as a second battery but why not get a good solid single battery? I am running the HC1800 and its got plenty of power. Upgrade your grounds at the battery and the power wire to your alternator.

As for sound deadening, I would say that 50 square feet is minimum if you really want to reduce rattle and road noise. Optimal is 100! make sure it is poly-butyl based and NOT tar-based if you want to avoid stinkyness and peeling problems.

I was at a local install place and they told me adding dynamat to the WHOLE car would add 200 LBS. Does that sound right? Not planing on doing the whole car just curious though. I do think however that I want to get the doors/trunk area done first. I was quoted from a different place for $300 for the doors and forgot what he said about the trunk area. That was for install ONLY I would have to purchase the dynamat which I have found for as low at $110 for 36sq ft of the xtreme dynamat.

 

rip off... $300 to basically put stickers on your doors is rediculous

 

Don't pay them that much to install the dynamat... there is a really nice how to in DIY section on how to remove door panels and just apply the dynamat yourself.
