Need help choosing a good radar detector.
I was looking at getting a Valentine 1 but then one of my friends that works at bestbuy told me it was crap and to get a Escort 9500i instead. So... i need some advice on getting a good radar detector. Anyone recommendations?

V1 is a very good unit and your friend doesn't know what he is talking about... Escort 9500i has GPS capability and that's it... as far as the range of the detectibility, each has it's pros and cons in different situations...

Valentine 1 is an amazing detector. It picks up everything, shows you where the signal is coming from and gives you ample time to slow down. I recently did the drive from Vegas to SD in 4 hours avg. 82 mph and knew where every cop was.
It is the best accessory that I have purchased for my Z. If you decide to get one follow this guide to set it up and you will be golden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr6aB...eature=related
If you have a homelink mirror you can hard wire the V1 into it and mount it to the mirror as well with a mounting accessory.

Both the V1 and Escort are top of the line detectors. You can't go wrong with either. Those of us who have the V1 think it's a better detector therefore that's why we bought them - yes, we're biased. The Escort owners surely feel the same way.

I have the Escort 9500ix which has the Autolearn feature. Its nice to have because when you go by the same bank or grocery store the radar detector will sense that and automatically block the false alarms by using the GPS feature.

I own the V1 and I bought my fiance the 9500i. Both are great detectors but I'd personally get the V1. The arrows are really great and I find myself missing them when driving the fiance's car.
The lock-out feature with the 9500i or 9500ix is overrated. While the chance isn't outrageously high, you can potentially be locking out police radar... so I have her rarely lock out any signals (unless the road is just falsing for miles which she'd ignore anyway even it were a cop).

I've got a pair of V1's and they work incredibly well.
They are not a license to speed ... but they are the next best thing. Around town I don't really need them - too many cops and kids on the streets - but out on the long empty stretches of highway it's nice to let the horse lose for a bit of leg stretching.

Yup, I was just going to say that. Its on a very specific frequency so if there is a cop near that lockout location, the detector will still go off. Wicked feature especially if you are in the big city.

If somebody works at Best Buy, that explains why they would claim that the V1 was crap. Let me guess, Best Buy sells the Escort, right?

X2. I have owned both and the V1 is just better hands down. I like to know where the signal is coming from too.

I just picked up the 9500ix and it works great. I love the lock out features that it comes with. The gps in it is pretty slick too. I like how its smart enough not to notify you of false alarms especially if your cruising through a parking lot at like 5 miles an hour. +1 for the 9500ix!
I would also reccomend getting the invisicord and the rearview mount.
