Hi I own 2003 Track Edition.
I want to upgrade my sound quality just slightly!
Not looking for crazy upgrade!! I have no clue on sound system, therefore i am asking for advise! Please please Help!!!
Question
1. If i upgrade just speaker without amp, would it sound better?
I am looking to buy speaker and amp if it's needed to upgrade sound.

The biggest weakness is the stock headunit. I changed that out (before going components/amp/sub) and it made the stock paper speakers sound more than "slightly" better.
Even my girlfriend mentioned it was cleaner, had more bass and I didn't even ask her. She usually doesn't care about car stereo quality.

Searching right now and from previews forum member recommendation, I heard stock HU upgrade is better than speaker upgrade!!

I have a brand new amp and a set of kicks with brand new 2-way speakers in them.. The kicks were made by Bing and if you ask anyone he is the only one to have do kicks for your Z. My kicks were off of a 2008 nismo though and I dont know if they will fit ur 2003. If you are interested send me a PM and I am sure I can find out if they will fit.

What people are saying here is correct. My Pioneer AVIC D3 made the stock Bose speaker setup sound awesome. I couldn't believe the change in how the stock speaker sound with an aftermarket HU. Honestly it's all you need unless you want a crazy stereo system.
A decent headunit is only a couple hundred bucks. IMHO I don't see a point in upgrading the speakers just to hear the crappy signal out of the stock HU, unless you wanted some extra bass from a sub and don't care about sound quality.

For those of you that have experience in replacing the head unit only, was there really that much of a difference in sound quality while keeping the stock amps and speakers (I just bought an 03 Touring with Bose)?
I have been advised to bypass the amplifier in the new head unit and use the preamp outs. Is that what you guys have done?
If this improves sound quality, then it must be more than just a lack of power that the stock head unit is to blame for since the new head unit will not be supplying more power with this setup.
Thanks for any help and recommendations.

but get a new headunit and see if that is a good enough upgrade for you.
