Default PWR button on steering wheel inop

I just had the Pioneer AVIC-F700BT NAV unit installed by the techs at Best Buy. They did a great job, and the unit works flawlessly. I did have to spring for a steering wheel "kit" that allows me to control the unit via my existing steering wheel controls. Everything works just fine except the "PWR" button. Can anyone tell me if this is normal, or did the techs forget to wire something up?

You didn't say what steering control unit that was used so I can't speak for certain. Here is my assumption; The unit they used either does not support the ability to cut the H/U on and off or Best Buy just didn't program that button properly. I have a Kenwood and had to use the PAC Audio SWI-JACK. It does not let you utilize the power button on the steering wheel control but it does have a mute feature which of course our steering wheel doesn't have. I just programmed the button to mute the radio when I hit the power button on the wheel.

Thanks guys. I talked to the Best Buy techs and they told me that the steering wheel control unit they put in did not support the "PWR" button feature. I plan to print the previous threads and bring them in when I take the car back for them to see. I'll update then.

This is a list of the hardware that was installed. Not being very savvy I thought I'd just show everything.

PIONEER AVIC-F700BT DOUBLE DIN
1 NISSAN HARNESS 95 AND UP
1 PIONEER/XM RECEIVER ADAPTER DI
ISIMPLE UNIVERSAL STEERING WHE
193 20090218 61 2332 1 PIONEER CD-I200 IPOD DIRECT CT

Hope this helps.

No, you did the right thing listing what was installed. Now I am more confused though. The only steering wheel control unit I see on there is the iSimple iPod controller. From what I know about them, they make a unit that you mount on the steering wheel to control your iPod. Maybe they make an adapter that allows you to utiliaze your OEM steering wheel control too.

I know all the products, but I thought PAC Audio was who most people used. From their website it doesnt look like their Pioneer unit (SWI-PS) is compatible with your AVIC so who knows what was needed for your set up.

Anyway, if they say it doesnt support the PWR button then they are probably right. See if it supports a different function that you would like, such as mute.

Thanks all. I plan to get back and grill the techs on what exactly they installed. I would like the PWR button to control something...even if it is just the mute. Right now to mute the unit I have to hold down the chrome volume **** for about 5 seconds to mute the sound. Thanks again.
