Installed a new head unit, now I have background hiss.
I just replaced the bose head unit in my 03 350z because it sounded like **** (no treble) with an Alpine CDA-9887. It sounds much better (actually has treble now) but now there is some background hiss that is kind of annoying, especially at low volumes. What do you think is causing this? Could it maybe be the bose amp (never looked to see if it was one of the ones in the TSB that needed to be replaced) or do the bose speakers just suck and I need to replace them too?

Integrating the Bose stuff with any aftermarket stuff is always prone to noise and hiss. It is best to either use the deck's low level outputs (RCAS) and wire them to the low level inputs to the amp. Can't really bypass because the speaker's ohms are too low.

as mentioned above. this is why i tell my customers, when you just add a HU to the bose system, at best, expect similar sound, at worst, expect hiss or diminished volume.
i usually use the scosche adjustable adapter piece for hte nissan bose, so i can turn the gain down on the individual channels to get rid of the hiss. but as mentioned, this usually results in the overall system volume to be lower.
it varies from HU to HU.
