The radio was ok today. I do notice that some stations sound better than others. I'm still not sure why the radio button was grayed out. Oh well, I'll keep my eye out for any info from Pioneer. I did also get this error about the the camera being in reverse. I don't even have that hooked up. I ended up pressing reset. Maybe heat has something to do with it.

Has anyone noticed that when playing a 5.1 DVD the 5.1 flag is displayed on the Pioneer screen? I don't have the external DTS/Dolby decoder but I thought movies would only play in 2.0 without it. I guess it really wouldn't matter since the Z isn't a four door car.

Hey all,
I was interested in purchasing one of these 3100 pioneers. I went to bestbuy today and it looks really clean. I like the 3100 because it doesnt have that **** and seems to look oem. I obviously wouldnt buy it there cuz its still $450. Just was wondering what is purpose of the "metra" you guys are talking about. I had a touch screen pioneer in my civic before and i dont think i ever purchased it one of those. I was also looking at the kenwood ddx512 and the pioneer 4000. I just like the look of the 3100 better and u guys seem to have success. Could i have an opinion or two? i have an 04 Z with the bose system right now. thanks guys.

just picked this car up last week, this is what it looked like when I bought it, he said he sold the stereo that was in it seperately
I'm hoping to install the 3100, by looking at the pics can you tell me if I need any kind of mounting hardware, he changed the stock speakers to aftermarkets ones and those are still wired up, I plan on getting the metra kit, but is there anything else I should order
also I can't find any wire for the sub behind my seat, would I be able to put an aftermarket sub in that spot
thanks for the help

I'm getting this unit on Wednesday, and I do not believe anyone has definitively answered whether or not the Ipod connection can be in the back of the unit that way it can be hidden. I understand that you will not be able to view video from just a USB connection and I am fine with that. Having a clean look on the front is more important to me. Thanks.

I had no idea so many Z33's installed this.
Has anyone been considering or already has utilized the optical output from the back of the unit?
I've got 5.1 amp which includes a DTS processor and it uses a standard optical SPDIF/Toslink as a possible inout. My thinking is, one optical cable from the HU to the amp is better than many no to mention the lower line loss as well. I intend to have 5.1 surround in my Z and I was hoping to find out from present owners anyone who has gone that route with this unit.
The optical output is to the lower right.

Even if some of you aren't planning to go the optical output route, perhaps those that are up on this sort of stuff can have a look at the back of their unit and tell me if it's a standard type of optical SPDIF/Toslink or woulf it by chance be a mini optical output.
To me I don't think it's a standard one since I tried to plug in my own optical cable and it wouldn't quite fit and I'm not sure if it's a mini type of a special one-off Pioneer type.
If someone can confirm one way or the other than I can go to these guys an order the cable I need.
Cheers,
John

Which metra kit is that? I need one for a double din unit and I can't find any specifically made for a DDin. Only ones that you must cut and shave. Anyone have a link or some place they can direct me? I looked on Ebay, and only found a single / DD which needs to be cut.

Is what I need. But doesn't say an 03 : /

METRA KIT: is like a unisex version... it can do single or double din and it is not very hard to cut out the piece in the center and trimming down the edges so it looks clean... i used some wire cutters and a nail file...
PIC BACKGROUNDS: Once you have the pic playing from a CD or Flash Drive, press the screen to bring up the menu. Towards the bottom right hand side you will need to press the "NEXT" button and it slides to the screen giving you the "CAPTURE" option... Press that, go into the "AV MENU", ummm i'm not in my car but you need to access another sub-folder and change the background to User Image...
Let me know if you have any other questions...

Does anyone know if you could purchase an OEM Switch to use instead of some random Toggle?
There's an empty slot next to the VDC/TCS Button right?
Id rather have something stock than cut a hole somewhere.

Yeah, I seen that on one of the other threads, I believe the same..
Not to knock that setup, but I'm looking for something a bit more discreet, I really don't wanna' drill a hole anywhere unless its the only option.
I'm specifically looking for a button like the VDC/TCS control, to fit into the spare slot on the left.

I just wanted to confirm that this is the correct metra dash kit for the install? I'm about to order one but just wanted to be 100% sure.
