How safe do u feel when you park your car and ppl look in and see your head unit. For those with the Sony WX-7700MDX CD/MD player, im pretty sure theres no way to take off the face right? So do you guys recommend to tint your window or not?? just curious bc i am planin to buy it but i am worried about the security.

Unless you tint it VERY dark that people can't see even through, or it won't really help much I think...
That's why I never considered HUs which faces aren't detachable...Even though I love a few of them

Get an alarm if you're worried, but then again, I wouldn't get an alarm for just a cd player. Not worth it, unless you have an expensive deck.

I would tint the windows. Or get one of those 1000 gigahertz shockers (they shock you when you touch the glass) It has the same effect as TASERS have.

Default remoavable faceplates

I think the point of the removable face plate is that the would-be crook has to wonder if you took the faceplate with you. He may break in (at some risk) to find out the stereo is no use anyway.

Seems like it might be a deterrent to _some_ crooks at least.

I ended up learning a little about car stereo thiefs and visual deterrents by accident.

(begin long story)

I knew this girl and one day she mentioned that her boyfriend had been checking out my camaro in their parking garage. Since I didn't know him I decided to play dumb and see what he thought of my ride.

When he came in I said "Hey I hear you spotted a Camaro you liked in the garage". I guess I was mostly fishing for an honest opinion on the car by not letting on that it was MINE.

His answer was "Yeah, it's nice, got a nice Alpine stereo, but there's an alarm so I ain't gonna touch it."

Holy ****!

I looked at my friend but she was just looking at the floor being all embarassed. I don't think she knew he was a crook until right then.

This guy turned out to be a stereo thief (and general as*ho**). From there I sort of got him talking (still playing dumb) and he started talking about how he stole stereos. What a dick, bragging about that to a guy he didn't know (me) .

As payback I spent the next week talking her in to dumping him ASAP. (it worked) Every time he tried to get back with her I would lay it on thick.... "Do you want to end up bailing him out of jail?" "Don't you think you deserve better?" etc. ...

That Camaro had a fake alarm (red blinking light in the dash) and he had fallen for it. I am a firm believer in visual deterrents. I know they are not 100% effective, but I also know they do work sometimes.

Smart crooks will look for the easiest targets.

Yup, I believe in visual deterant too. I will describe something below that a friend on mine did on a car that was not a Z, but I will use Z terms so we all understand.

Remove the stock stereo and mount up your new one with the metra kit, but recess it by about 1/2 inch. Now, remove the face of the stock stereo including the buttons. Come up with some backer that you can glue it all together on. Now, find some way to place it over the new stereo. Once you have the depth and fitment right, you can simply stick it over the existing stereo without the need to take anything with you.

I won't be doing this because I live in a relatively crime free area. Not to mention, I can just remove the face when I am in a bad/unpopulated area. At any rate, though this might help.
