Default PAC-SWI Install PLEASE Help-Kenwood ddx512

So we installed the pac-swi for my kenwood ddx512. We know we did the install correctly because when trying to program the swi, on step 7.5 it says Release and the LED should come back on, if it does not please double check all connections. It does come on and the program works like it says in the instruction guide. Now the problem is after we program it nothing the controls arent working, we tried for 3 hours and couldnt get any. Are we missing something or what are we doing wrong? Does anyone have any insight with installing the pac-swi and especially with the kenwood ddx512. Also the cable it comes with do you plug that in the back in the audio plug thats for the ipod? It can only go one of two places, that one or the digital out.. PLEASE help someone..

Have you read the DIY for this yet?

I don't have a Kenwood, but I do have one of the PAC products for my Alpine. When I was installing I eventually had to call PAC and get support b/c I thought I had everything hooked up as well. Turned out that for the non-Bose units there are 2 ground wires, though in the instructions it didn't mention that.

Not sure if its the same for your install; check out the thread above, it may help.

I would say give PAC a call; their customer service was pretty good, from what I remember.

Yeah they are awesome, seems like the unit is broken. What happens is it was programmed correctly, but lets say when i hit volume up, the unit flashes but nothing happens. They seem to think the output is broken and i need to get a new one.. He said i shouldnt to do any rewiring though, i should just be able to pull out that plug harness thingy with all the wires and plug it in a new one. I bought the first one off ebay..big mistake.. so i dont recommend that to anyone. It was $40 cheaper but im going to just order it from crutchfield this evening

Test the new one before you send the old one back. If both units don't work correctly, then you can conclude that there is another issue, troubleshoot the problem, and then you can send the newer one back to Crutchfield and get your money back once you figure it out. Good luck, man!

I got it working, Talked to like 5 different guys, first 3 didnt help last 2 were good. Basically i have to connect a blue/yellow wire from the pac unit to the blue/yellow wire at the back of the kenwood unit, which by-the-way the instructions DONT SAY!! But its working great now!

Congrats!

How do you have your buttons arranged? Did you go with the stock layout? I changed my Power button to a Pause button. Love it.

its great! I changed the power button to mute! Since i got sat radio which i listed to the most i figured Mute should work the best, except it doesnt actually mute it completely, just makes the volume much lower

Wait... oh yeah, I have my power button as "pause" and my mode button as "mute". I agree with you, the mute function is great!
